Franchise star Neve Campbell has put any rumors regarding her Scream 6 return as Sidney Prescott to rest.

As reported by ScreenRant, Campbell appeared on a panel for Mad Monster Party Arizona, where was asked about recent rumors that she had signed on to return for Scream 6 and whether there was any truth to them. "There is not I'm afraid to say. I'm sorry. Sorry guys," Campbell said.

Rumors began circulating in June that, despite Campbell's previous announcement that she would not be returning for the sixth installment of the classic slasher franchise, the actor had signed on to appear in both Scream 6 and 7. Earlier that same month, the actor confirmed that she had made the "very difficult decision" not to return for the sixth Scream film, saying the offer she received did not equate to the impact she's had on the franchise.

No Sidney For Scream 6

"Sadly, I won't be making the next Scream film," Campbell said. "As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise." Campbell has starred in all five Scream films since she kickstarted the series in 1996 as protagonist Sidney Prescott and has starred in all of its subsequent sequels. She reprised the role for the franchise's fifth installment, simply titled Scream, appearing alongside fellow mainstays Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers) and David Arquette (Dewey Riley).

Following the box office success of 2022's Scream, Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group announced that a sixth Scream had been greenlit. "We are tremendously grateful to the fans around the world who enthusiastically received our film," Paramount and Spyglass said in a joint statement. "We can't wait for audiences to see what Radio Silence, writers Jamie & Guy and Project X have in store for our Woodsboro family."

Scream saw Sidney Prescott return to her hometown of Woodsboro 25 years after the events of the first film as a new killer targets a group of teenagers. Like the films before it, the identity of Ghostface has been kept tightly under wraps even from the actors, who were each given differing scripts in order to keep the killer's identity a mystery. The film was described by the cast and crew as a relaunch rather than a sequel and, with a mix of old and new cast members, was the first Scream not directed by Wes Craven, who died in August 2015.

Scream 6 arrives in theaters on March 31, 2023.
