It has become a common occurrence nowadays for past controversial tweets from prominent actors, filmmakers or icons to resurface after several years, and come under new scrutiny.

Page Six reported that CBS and corporate siblings MTV and VH1 have hired a private investigation firm to examine social media accounts of their actors and reality stars for offensive posts. Edward Myers & Associates, according to the report, has sent letters to several celebrities to prepare them for its upcoming investigations. Myers' task is to "root out offensive posts from on-air and production talent before they're made public and embarrass their bosses."

Several celebrities have had old remarks resurface, resulting in apologies and firings. Megan Amram -- a writer and producer for NBC's The Good Place, who also wrote for Parks and Recreation and Silicon Valley -- recently apologized for racist tweets that targeted Asian Americans.

Prior to this, Hartley Sawyer was fired from The Flash because of tweets posted between 2011 to 2014, full of homophobic and misogynistic jokes. Among the people who flagged Sawyer's tweets was Skai Jackson, who voiced Glory Grant for two Marvel Rising shorts and co-starred in the Disney Channel shows Jessie and Bunk'd.

Myers was a former investigator for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office, in its Hardcore Gang Division. He also was a senior director for Gavin deBecker & Associates, the security firm that guards Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.
