The stars of Netflix's The Witcher revealed the first monster that will appear in Season 2: a monster that was previously rumored to appear in the hit-fantasy series.

Actor Paul Bullion confirmed at WitcherCon that Season 2's first monster will be the Leshen. In the books and the video games, Leshen, or Leshy, are often ancient spirits of the forest with the ability to control both flora and fauna, predominately ravens and wolves.

Rumors began to circulate back in February 2020 when filming for Season 2 of The Witcher began that the series would include the beast. Leshen appear in CD Projekt Red's The Witcher video games and are depicted as spirits embodying bodies bearing wooded limbs and elk skulls.

It should be noted that Leshy do not appear in Andrzej Sapkowski's Blood of Elves, which Season 2 is set to adapt. Other rumors that surfaced suggest that the presence of the monster will bring more deviations from the novels-- potentially resulting in the death of a major character.

The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season 1 is now available on Netflix.
