In anticipation for Netflix's adaptation of Victor Santos' Polar, which premieres this month, the premium streaming service has released a new trailer showing star Mads Mikkelsen as a hitman desperately trying to leave his bloody occupation.

The feature-length Dark Horse Comics adaptation follows Duncan Vizla, the world's top assassin. After attempting to retire from professional killing, a former client hires an army of contract killers to terminate Duncan rather than run the risk of him becoming a liability.

Mikkelsen signed on to star in the upcoming Netflix film in October 2017. Netflix outbid several other studios for distribution rights to the adaptation, which is co-produced by Dark Horse Entertainment's Mike Richardson.

According to the film's official description,

The world’s top assassin, Duncan Vizla, aka The Black Kaiser (Mads Mikkelsen), is settling into retirement when his former employer marks him as a liability to the firm. Against his will, he finds himself back in the game going head to head with an army of younger, faster, ruthless killers who will stop at nothing to have him silenced.

Based on the graphic novel of the same name by Victor Santos, Polar is directed by Jonas Åkerlund and stars Mads Mikkelsen, Vanessa Hudgens, Kathryn Winnick and Matt Lucas. It is scheduled to premiere January 25 on Netflix.
