On Dec. 1, Elliot Page shared a letter on his Instagram to his followers coming out as transgender and genderqueer. His pronouns are He, Him/They, Them.

In the light of this recent share, Netflix publicly stated that it's in the process of updating all of his past film and television credits to reflect his true name, as reported by Variety.

"Those changes should start to be reflected throughout Tuesday," Variety reported through an insider source. At the time of this writing, IMDB has also already updated Page's credit on its The Umbrella Academy television page. At the time of this writing, no other streaming services have spoken up about changing Page's credits on their platforms.

Page's announcement was filled with gratitude, but also asked fans to show them "patience" during this time. "My joy is real, but also fragile," Page wrote. "To be clear, I am not trying to dampen a moment that is joyous and one that I celebrate, but I want to address the full picture... The discrimination towards trans people is rife, insidious and cruel, resulting in horrific consequences."

Page continued to cite reported trans deaths within 2020, reminding their audience that while they are so happy to be their authentic self, that this also comes with associated risk and vulnerability that others do not face on a daily basis. "I love that I am trans," Page closed his letter. "And I love that I am queer. And the more I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive. To all the trans people who deal with harassment, self-loathing, abuse, and the threat of violence every day: I see you, I love you, and I will do everything I can to change this world for the better."

Fans speculated after his announcement that this might mean he will no longer portray Vanya in Netflix's The Umbrella Academy. Insiders reported as well that there are no current plans for Page to step down from their role in the series. Page will still portray the cisgender woman character on-screen.

The Umbrella Academy's Twitter account recently confirmed production will begin for its Season 3 in February.

Based on the comic series by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, The Umbrella Academy stars Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher and Justin H. Min, with Ritu Arya, Yusuf Gatewood, Marin Ireland, Jordan Claire Robbins, Kate Walsh and Colm Feore. Seasons 1 and 2 are streaming on Netflix.
