Netflix's The Umbrella Academy has no plans to recast the role of Vanya Hargreeves.

According to Variety, insiders claim Vanya will continue to be depicted as a female in the series, with the non-binary, transgender Elliot Page playing the part.

"Trans actors can and do play both trans and cisgender characters," GLAAD Director of Transgender Media Nick Adams said. "I’m sure Elliot will continue to be brilliant in Umbrella Academy and many different types of roles in the future."

Netflix is also in the process of updating metadata across the platform so any roles previously credited to Ellen Page will now read Elliot Page.

"Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot," Page shared on social media. "I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life."

Netflix's The Umbrella Academy -- which was just renewed for Season 3 -- centers on the Hargreeves family: Vanya, Luther, Diego, Klaus, Allison, Five and Ben Hargreeves, adopted raised by billionaire Reginald Hargreeves, the robot Grace Hargreeves and Pogo. After several years away from home, the children are brought together once more when Reginald passes away and Five reappears from his journey through time, warning the Hargreeves that it's up to them to prevent the end of the world.

Season 2 saw the Hargreeves children hurled back across the 1960s in the aftermath of the explosive Season 1 finale. While searching for a way back to their own time, the family is forced to defend themselves against Swedish assassins and the Commission, all while trying to prevent major alterations to history by ensuring that the Kennedy assassination occurs. The season ended with the Hargreeves returning to the present, only to find that the world has once again changed and the Umbrella Academy is no more-- it has now been replaced by the Sparrow Academy, led by a seemingly resurrected Ben Hargreeves.

Based on the comic series of the same name by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, The Umbrella Academy stars Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher and Justin H. Min, with Ritu Arya, Yusuf Gatewood, Marin Ireland, Jordan Claire Robbins, Kate Walsh and Colm Feore. Seasons 1 and 2 are now streaming on Netflix.
