Netflix has now revealed important details concerning the plot of its upcoming anime film, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, which will tie into its hit live-action fantasy series, The Witcher.

The film's Netflix page confirmed that the upcoming anime, produced by Studio Mir, will center on the witcher known as Vesemir and his origins as a boy lost to the Law of Surprise. The official description reads, "Long before mentoring Geralt, Vesemir begins his own journey as a witcher after the mysterious Deglan claims him through the Law of Surprise."

Vesemir's name was mentioned sporadically throughout the Netflix series, before the old witcher himself was finally heard in the episode "Much More," which briefly touched on Geralt's past and his introduction into the School of the Wolf. It is currently unknown if actor Theo James, who lent his voice to the character in the live-action series, will reprise the role for the anime tie-in.

Interestingly, this would make Nightmare of the Wolf the first project to flesh out Vesemir's past, which neither  Andrzej Sapkowski's novels, namely Blood of Elves, or the critically-acclaimed video game series attempted to do. Geralt's mentor is simply known throughout as a former instructor and the oldest surviving witcher in Kaer Morhen.

The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season 1 is now available on Netflix. Season 2 is currently in development.
