WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Season 1 of The Idhun Chronicles, available on Netflix.

Netflix's The Idhun Chronicles didn't end on the most victorious note for the mages-in-training, Jack and Victoria. They lost their mentor, Shail, and with Alsan heading to a mysterious destination after being turned into a werewolf, the Resistance is at its lowest.

Jack was sent away from Limbhad as well, as Vic felt like the rebellion made no sense and there was no hope to save Idhun from being controlled by Ashran and his general, Kirtash. With that in mind, let's look at what Season 2 could offer. There are some clues in the season's trailer that suggest there's still hope for Jack's team.

Season 2 Could Bring a Better Resistance

In Season 1 of The Idhun Chronicles, Jack and Vic were at odds as they didn't know who else to call on. It's why Jack went after Alsan, as he needed their other teacher back. Vic felt this was a sign of desertion, though, and deemed Jack a traitor. In Season 2, it looks like they'll be trying to find other kingdoms, however, to join the battle.

We're not sure if they'll be doing this together or separately, but there are other royal councils in the trailer coming to fight Ashran. We also know his forces have been killing magic refugees across many worlds so it seems like these legions have had enough. Shail's death is simply the ideal catalyst for the remaining mages banding together -- maybe even evolving Jack and Vic as well.

Alsan Has a Big Dilemma

Alsan left as he couldn't control the beast within so Season 2 will focus on how he grows as a mentor while caging the beast. He's back teaching the younglings a la Luke Skywalker, so it does seem like he's got the monster under control, although some scenes show the wolf emerging in an uncontrollable manner.

What's interesting is Elrion, the necromancer who put the spell on Alsan, was killed as Kirtash felt he was incompetent. This leaves Ashran as the only one who could perfect or remove the spell. It may end up with Alsan's corruption if Ashran offers back his humanity. Ashran may even let him have his kingdom of Vanissar back so if this is the route followed, Alsan will be tested like never before.

Season 2 Could Ignite Ashran's War

Ashran wasn't happy Kirtash killed Elrion as the dark sorcerer needs all hands on deck so they can find the last unicorn and dragon, thus purging their enemies' magic from the world. Season 2 has the dark fairy, Gerde, being sent by Ashran to watch over and help Kirtash, and there are hints there will be war. He hates her and the fact she's spying on him means he can't trust his boss.

Gerde has already hinted their master knows everything so Kirtash's secret plot to romance and unite his power with Vic may be exposed. It could lead to Kirtash trying a coup or even flipping sides, but given the innocent blood on his hands, it'll be difficult. He's a loner, though, so he might have no choice but to find new allies as it's unlikely Ashran's snake-men would side with him. Ultimately, Gerde seems ready to take his spot as Ashran's second-in-command so it's going to be a Game of Thrones-like regime.

Fans Should Expect a New Victoria in Season 2

Vic's a human who can use magic, not a pureblood, but her power has been boosted exponentially with the Staff of Ayshel -- the weapon belonging to a human mage and war legend from centuries ago. From the trailer, Vic's definitely been leveling up on her own and she seems to be becoming more and more like this hero she'd heard so much about. She also has Shail's library and all its relics, such as the unicorn tears, so it's a wise move to be upgrading her arsenal at this point as she wasn't on her game in Season 1.

Honing her skills like this will also make her better equipped to find the animals and free Idhun, but it won't be easy as she's still being tempted by Kirtash. She has a crush on him, meaning that they can't seem to kill each other a la Kylo Ren and Rey, which will ultimately draw the ire of Jack. He'll want revenge for Shail and if the thought of forgiving Kirtash comes up, he won't like it. If that's the case and Vic gives into Kirtash, then she may well end up turning into a dark mage, flipping the series on its head.
