With a new year comes new content available on Netflix, and among the January releases are Christopher Nolan’s 2008 film The Dark Knight and Zack Snyder’s 2009 film Watchmen.
The Dark Knight is considered by many to be one of the greatest superhero films of all-time, where the alliance between Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) and Batman (Christian Bale) to take down the organized crime in Gotham is derailed by the machinations of The Joker (Heath Ledger), whose purpose appears to be an antithesis to Batman.. The film won high praise from fans and critics, and Ledger won a posthumous Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Zack Snyder’s Watchmen is an adaptation of the iconic Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons limited series that takes place in an alternate 1985 during the height of the Cold War. The superhero film focuses on the members of a previous team of costumed adventurers who find themselves back in action when the murder of a former teammate uncovers a complex and dangerous conspiracy that pushes the limits of their morals, sanity and perception of the world they seek to protect. The ensemble cast featured actors Jackie Earle Haley, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Patrick Wilson, Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode and Carla Gugino. The film opened to polarizing reception from fans and critics, and modest box office success.
Watchmen and The Dark Knight were released on Jan. 1, along with Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction, Guillermo Del Toro’s Pan’s Labrinyth, Steven Speilberg and George Lucas’ Indiana Jones Trilogy and other titles listed below. Netflix has also confirmed that Solo: A Star Wars Story, Incredibles 2 and Ant-Man and the Wasp will arrive later this month.
