Netflix's post-apocalyptic DC adaptation Sweet Tooth has expanded its roster of series regulars heading into the long-awaited Season 2.

According to Deadline, Sweet Tooth has cast Christopher Sean Cooper Jr. (Circle Of Sisters Expo) and Yonas Kibreab (Blood Moon) as series regulars for its sophomore season. Cooper will portray Teddy Turtle, while Kibreab will portray Finn Fox. Moreover, existing Sweet Tooth cast members Naledi Murray, Neil Sandilands and Marlon Williams have all been upgraded to series regulars for Season 2 after previously recurring in Season 1. Murray, Sandilands and Williams reprise their roles as Wendy, General Abbot and Johnny Abbot, respectively.

Netflix's Sweet Tooth is based on the comic book series of the same name written and illustrated by Jeff Lemire, which originally ran for 40 issues under DC's Vertigo imprint from 2009 to 2013. Lemire later returned for a six-issue follow-up series aptly titled Sweet Tooth: The Return, which was published under DC's Black Label from November 2020 to April 2021. Sweet Tooth centers on a young boy named Gus, who is one of numerous animal/human hybrids that mysteriously emerged following an apocalyptic pandemic.

The television adaptation stars Christian Convery as Gus opposite Nonso Anozie as Tommy Jepperd, Adeel Akhtar as Dr. Singh, Will Forte as Richard, Stefania LaVie Owen as Bear, Dania Ramirez as Aimee Eden, Aliza Vellani as Rani Singh and James Brolin as the voice of the narrator. Sweet Tooth premiered its eight-episode first season on Netflix nearly two whole years ago in June 2021. The series was renewed for Season 2 the following month, having been met with overwhelmingly positive reviews from audiences and critics alike. Production on Season 2 wrapped up in June 2022, though updates on Sweet Tooth's sophomore outing -- which still lacks a premiere date -- have otherwise been few and far between. That said, new casting coming to light would suggest that things are moving along.

What Is Sweet Tooth Season 2 About?

Per Deadline, Sweet Tooth Season 2 picks up the story as a "deadly new wave of the Sick bears down, Gus (Convery) and a band of fellow hybrids are held prisoner by General Abbot (Sandilands) and the Last Men. Looking to consolidate power by finding a cure, Abbot uses the children as fodder for the experiments of captive Dr. Aditya Singh (Akhtar), who's racing to save his infected wife Rani (Vellani). To protect his friends, Gus agrees to help Dr. Singh, beginning a dark journey into his origins and his mother Birdie's (Amy Seimetz) role in the events leading up to The Great Crumble. Outside the Preserve, Tommy Jepperd (Nonso Anozie) and Aimee Eden (Ramirez) team up to break the hybrids free, a partnership that will be tested as Jepperd's secrets come to light. As the revelations of the past threaten the possibility of redemption in the present, Gus and his found family find themselves on a collision course with Abbot and the evil forces that look to wipe them out once and for all."

Interestingly, while HBO Max is seen as the de facto streaming home of most things DC these days, Sweet Tooth isn't the only Vertigo property that currently lives on Netflix. The streaming giant is also the home of the TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman, which premiered in August 2022 and has itself been renewed for a second season. Additionally, it recently came to light that the planned TV adaptation of the Sandman spinoff comic Dead Boy Detectives would be moving to Netflix after previously being developed for HBO Max.
