Netflix is no longer offering free trials, but it will make it up to fans with a free streaming event.

Netflix Chief Operating Officer Greg Peters revealed the streaming service will promote a 48-hour free streaming event in the near future. The company will test drive the event in India before possibly bringing the experience to other countries in the months to follow.

"We think that giving everyone in a country access to Netflix for free for a weekend could be a great way to expose a bunch of new people to the amazing stories that we have," Peters said. "Really creating an event, and hopefully get a bunch of those folks to sign up."

The event was discovered when a recent version of Netflix's Android app included code for a promotional event called StreamFest that was scheduled to launch on Dec. 4. Based on the uncovered code, the event will be available on any device that is able to stream Netflix and will not ask users to provide any credit card information. "We don't need any payment details -- just your love and undivided attention," read a text string from the app. Another text string from the app included the phrase, "Netflix StreamFest is at capacity," suggesting there will be a limited number of seats for the streaming event.

Netflix did not reach its subscription goals for Q3 2020 but believes it will add six million subscribers over the next quarter. The free 48-hour streaming event is just one way the company plans on making a comeback.
