The popularity of Netflix's original TV series, such as Bridgerton, The Queen's Gambit, Firefly Lane and Lupin, is giving their print editions new life on the bestseller charts.
Netflix shared that five of the Top Ten entries on February's New York Times Best Sellers list are novels that have been adapted into one of its shows.
Bridgerton quickly became Netflix's most popular series ever, attracting 82 million viewers in four weeks after Season 1 debuted in December 2020. Consequently, The Duke and I from the Bridgerton series, written by Julia Quinn, was Number 1 on the Times chart for four weeks. In recent weeks, five Bridgerton novels were on the list at the same time.
62 million viewers were drawn into The Queen's Gambit, Netflix's most-watched miniseries. The novel by Walter Tevis, published in 1983, first made the Best Sellers List three weeks after its Netflix debut and went on to an 11-week run in the Top 10.
One month before its TV adaptation premiered, Firefly Lane, written by Kristin Hannah in 2008, made the Top 10 list. Firefly Lane hit the top of the list three days after its Netflix debut.
French heist drama Lupin drew 70 million subscribers, and the book, written by Maurice Leblanc in 1907, became a Top 5 bestseller on Amazon and the French retail chain Fnac 1o days after the TV adaptation debuted. The novel trended in the United States, the United Kingdom, Korea, Italy and Spain. In 15 days it sold as many copies as it previously had in a year.
