After a cliffhanger ending finished off its first season, Netflix's The Umbrella Academy has reportedly been renewed for a Season 2.

According to Screen Rant, Season 2 will begin production this May and run until September, but outside of that, no other details such as casting news, plot direction or a premiere date has been revealed.

The series, an adaptation of the Dark Horse Comics title by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, has been one of the streaming service's most popular shows in recent memory, so the report of the show's renewal isn't a surprise.

While the series took some massive deviations from the comics its based on, fans have generally received it quite well. Season 1 concluded with the Hargreeves family deciding to forget their tortured childhood and unite as the team of superheroes they were meant to be to save the world.

The final scene depicted them fending off the temporal agency that was hunting them throughout the season, a meteor shower, and actually making a time-jump of their own to save the soul of Ellen Page's Vanya. With such a blank canvas to explore, what showrunner Steve Blackman has planned remains an utter mystery to even fans of the books, which means that the future of The Umbrella Academy is truly a mystery.

Now streaming on Netflix, The Umbrella Academy Season 1 stars Ellen Page, Mary J. Blige, Tom Hopper, Cameron Britton, Robert Sheehan, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Adam Godley, Aidan Gallagher, David Castañeda, John Magaro, Ashley Madekwe and Colm Feore.
