The last several months have been some of the most exciting for longtime fans of The Witcher, almost all of which are eagerly awaiting the premiere of Netflix's upcoming live-action adaptation. Everyone involved in the creation of the series -- including novel series author Andrzej Sapkowski -- has expressed the utmost confidence in the future success of the series.Evidently, Netflix is so confident that it has already renewed the series for a second season. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich took to social media to make the announcement. She wrote, "Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri will be back for more adventures... in Season Two," adding, "I could not be more proud of what the amazing cast and crew of The Witcher have accomplished, and can’t wait for the world to dig in and enjoy these stories with us."RELATED: The Witcher: Showrunner Explains The Netflix Series' Nilfgaardian Armor

The announcement comes after rumors surrounding the development of The Witcher Season 2 began circulating several weeks ago. In fact, it was recently reported that the second season was nearing pre-production. Details surrounding Season 2 are scarce, but it is likely to predominately adapt events from Sapkowski's Time of Contempt onwards.

Assuming that Season 1 is as successful as Hissrich, Sapkowski and others believe it will be, The Witcher may last several years. Showrunner revealed in an interview with SFX Magazine that she has plans and enough material for at least seven seasons of the show.

The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. The series will be available to stream on Netflix starting December 20.
