WARNING: The following article contains major spoilers for Season 2 of Ragnarok, now streaming on Netflix.

Season 2 of Netflix's Ragnarok throws Magne (David Stakston) into the deep end in the Norwegian town of Edda, as he has to level up as the reincarnated Thor. The Jötunn reincarnates, disguised as humans in the Jutul family, are continuing to wreak havoc with their industrial plant polluting Edda's waters, so Magne also has to find fellow gods to stop his enemies. However, while the first season teased his powers as the Thunder God, he finally makes the next step, gaining Mjolnir and accepting his destiny at last.

While Magne is eager to get his powers, he's not responsible or mature enough yet. He gets Harry, a mechanic and forgesmith, to build a hammer but despite his research, he can't get it to fly and return to him. He finds Odin, who laughs as he makes it clear that Magne can't just make Mjolnir: he has to be worthy.

In his quest to make Mjolnir work properly, Magne even tries breaking into the Jutul home when the giants aren't there so he can heat the hammer up in the "eternal fire" as per a prophecy, but that fails. This leads to a fight with him killing the Jutul patriarch, Vidar, when he comes home, causing him to lose the trust of Loki/Laurits. His half-brother's angry because Vidar was his biological father, leading Magne to feel guilty at Vidar's funeral. Loki's scorn breaks his heart, so Magne rebukes his power and strength, not wanting to kill anymore.

Magne becomes human again, with poor posture, eyesight and balance, sacrificing these so Loki can accept him once more. But while he initially feels that he was becoming a corrupted monster like the giants, Magne realizes he's actually just being a coward. The Jutuls end up winning the government over, evading taxes and also targeting his family, so Magne decides he needs his power back. More so, he has to get Mjolnir.

Odin confesses he's finally ready and hatches a plan with Iman/Freyja to take him out of the retirement home, as he's in the old man, Wotan's, body. They recruit Harry/Týr, the god of war, as well as Halvor, an orderly and dwarf, and sneak into the Jutul plant where the real flame is. There, Magne and co. forge the ideal hammer, using a feather from Wenche's human form and an arrow from the Jutul arsenal.

It comes at a price, though, because Fjor finds them and beats down Harry and Iman, while police arrest Halvor, who distracts them just like Wotan did earlier. Magne escapes, however, and while the others are reprimanded by the law and their places of employment, Magne's bravery and determination allows him to head to the mountains and call lightning down once again. It charges Mjolnir and powers him up but this time, Thor has been fully reborn.
