Netflix has officially introduced its long-rumored shuffle function, which is being titled "Play Something."

The new "Play Something" button will instantly play a television series or movie based on a viewer's previous recommendations and content watched.

An extra click of the button also brings up the "Play Something Else" option, which includes:

  • A brand new series or film,
  • A series or film you’re already watching,
  • A series or film on your list, or
  • An unfinished series or film you may want to revisit.

Below are different ways that "Play Something" can be utilized from a TV:

  • Underneath your profile name
  • The tenth row on your Netflix homepage
  • The navigation menu on the left of the screen

For Netflix subscribers that use screen-readers, "Play Something" also supports Text-to-Speech (TTS). For more information on using "Play Something" with TTS can be found on the Netflix Accessibility help center, along with instructions on how to enable the feature through TV device settings.

A shuffle option began appearing on Netflix accounts back in August 2020, as the streamer began testing the new feature. Before that was a "Shuffle Mode" which gave viewers the option to watch a random episode of their favorite shows.

"Play Something" was also previously available as a button on the sidebar for Android and Amazon devices.
