Netflix is introducing a new animation that will see the sharp, clean red capital N that has for years been the streaming service's logo transform before original content plays.

Netflix posted a preview of the animation on Twitter, announcing, "SOME PERSONAL NEWS: Starting today there's a new logo animation before our originals. It shows the spectrum of stories, languages, fans, & creators that make Netflix beautiful -- now on a velvety background to better set the mood." The video itself shows the logo transforming into a cascade of colored bars.

The sequence is reminiscent of the intros used by large studios for major motion pictures, which points towards Netflix's progression from video rental service to content creator over the years. The service now boasts an ample library of original series and movies.

Netflix has already begun attaching the animation to its new originals. Within the next few months, animated logo will be retroactively added to the originals already on Netflix.

The distinctive "ta-da" that viewers have already become accustomed to hearing as a Netflix original begins syncs up nicely with the animation. In a nod to the sound's effectiveness, the announcement included "And before you ask: no, the sound isn’t changing."
