Based on the comic book and short film by commercial and music video director Dennis Liu, Raising Dion centers on an African-American single mother, Nicole, who discovers her young son has superpowers. She has to fight to keep Dion's abilities hidden from those who wish to exploit them, while deducing the origin of the powers. Jordan will appear as Nicole's late husband Mark.

"I started this project many years ago because I wanted to see more diverse representation on film and television and I'm excited to partner with Netflix and MACRO, who I know shares that commitment," Liu said in a statement. "More than ever, we need more stories told from different points of view and my hope with Raising Dion is to create a cinematic experience for all families that will lift your spirits and make you laugh and cry.”

The first episode is written Carol Barbee, executive producer on UnREAL, who will serve as showrunner. Liu will direct and executive produce alongside Barbee, Jordan, through his Outlier Society Productions, MACRO’s Charles D. King, Kim Roth and Poppy Hanks, Kenny Goodman and Michael Green (Logan, American Gods).

Netflix has ordered a 10-episode first season of Raising Dion, but no release date has been announced.
