The most prominent figure on Lucifer to never actually appear on the show through its first four and a half seasons was God. He always loomed large, though, as Lucifer's ongoing daddy issues have continued to drive the series' plot and led him to undergo five seasons and counting of therapy with Dr. Linda Martin. However, the very end of the mid-season finale of Season 5 finally began the introduction of Lucifer's father, which has led fans to wonder when, or if, Jesus will appear, too.

God's name has been invoked quite consistently practically since moment one of the series. Several millennia after being banished by his father from Heaven to rule over Hell, Lucifer had enough and bailed. He turned up in Los Angeles, where he made a home and ran a  nightclub. Lucifer even eventually started helping Detective Chloe Decker and the LAPD solve crimes, though God may have played a role in arranging all of that.

Yet, until the middle of the fifth season, God was nothing more than a discussion point. Lucifer cursed him. Amenadiel sought his approval. Charlotte Richards, who housed his ex-wife for a time, wanted to destroy him. Mazikeen doesn't give care about him and is more focused on Linda. Despite all the conversation about God -- as well as all the other celestials who have shown up on the series -- he never made an appearance. Well, that fans know of at this point.

Then, in the final seconds of the first half of Season 5, the deity finally set foot on Earth to deal with his children. In the second half of Season 5, God will be played by Dennis Haysbert, which is a brilliant piece of casting. It will be amazing to watch the celestials as well as the humans who know about them deal with the Almighty, especially since his appearance will also mean he can meet his possibly very-human grandson for the first time. And now that he's come to Los Angeles, one can't help but wonder what the ETA is on the arrival of his most famous son.

Compared to God, mentions of Jesus Christ are few and far between on Lucifer. It's actually a little surprising for a series whose mythology is so firmly rooted in Christianity, particularly Catholicism. Still, Jesus has not been a factor in the series. However, with God now walking the Earth, that could change over the next season and a half. Jesus could join the rest of his family in Los Angeles, much to chagrin of his half brothers who already call it home.

The bigger question is if he even needs to show up. From a story perspective, Lucifer already has a lot of moving parts, particularly since Eve is supposed to make her return in Season 5, Part 2. And if she's coming back, it's not out of the realm of possibility that Adam will show up, as well. Jesus might actually prove to be a distraction from the rest of the story, unless his return is the crux of Season 6.

Lucifer and Maze get ready to do some damage

In the Bible, Jesus coming back to Earth is the starting gun for the Rapture and the End of Days. Regardless of your personal beliefs, Jesus returning to Earth in Lucifer to kick-start that whole thing, only to be talked out of it by Lucifer, could be an interesting way for the series to wrap up in Season 6, its final outing.

However he pops up, hopefully either Jesus or God finally clues Ella into the whole celestial situation. It's time she knew the truth.

Lucifer stars Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar, Lauren German as Det. Chloe Decker, D.B. Woodside as Amenadiel, Rachael Harris as Dr. Linda Martin, Kevin Alejandro as Det. Dan Espinoza, Lesley-Ann Brandt as Mazikeen Smith and Aimee Garcia as Ella Lopez. Season 5, Part 1 is available on Netflix now.
