Netflix has been conservative in its release of news and updates about the live-action Resident Evil series currently in production. Audiences may have gotten a good look at what the streaming giant has in store, thanks to a script that leaked online.

One draft of the Resident Evil script opens with quaking and a giant caterpillar before fading into a flashback to introduce the show's two protagonists-- 14-year old Jade and Billie, daughters of none other than Albert Wesker, who also makes an appearance. The script features zombies, referred to as "zeroes," mutant creatures and a twisted secret regarding the Wesker children.

The script has been shared across the Internet, with one Reddit user stating it was shared by "a mate of mine who has thrown it around to a few people, he wishes this would get more publicity. According to him the full script has been in existence since January 2020, hence details being known since before filming had started."

It has already garnered strong reactions from fans, some of which debate the series' faithfulness to the franchise and some of the creative choices the showmakers appear to have made. It should be pointed out that this is an old draft and so should not be taken as being 100 percent accurate to what audiences will ultimately see on screen.

Netflix previously release a description of the series, one that has since been removed. It read: "The town of Clearfield, MD has long stood in the shadow of three seemingly unrelated behemoths – the Umbrella Corporation, the decommissioned Greenwood Asylum, and Washington, D.C. Today, twenty-six years after the discovery of the T-Virus, secrets held by the three will start to be revealed at the first signs of outbreak."

Filming for Netflix's Resident Evil was intended to commence in April 2020, but was forced to delay due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. After several more delays and missed production start dates, the project was given a new filming start date, according to Production Weekly, of Sept. 8 and a scheduled wrap date of Dec. 14. Though, this applies to the British Columbia Unit, filming in Vancouver, Canada.

The first season will be comprised of eight hour-long episodes. Actor Lance Reddick announced on social media that he will be played Albert Wesker. Netflix also announced Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, and Paola Nunez for the show.

Resident Evil has seen something of a revival across media, with an animated feature film being released -- also produced by Netflix -- alongside an unrelated reboot of the Resident Evil film series. Additionally, video game developer Capcom continues to release content for Resident Evil 8, which was released for the PC, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S earlier this year.
