There's a chance for Netflix to produce more Addams Family spinoffs following the major success of Wednesday.

In an interview with Vulture, Netflix's head of scripted series, Peter Friedlander, suggested that the streamer is far from done with the spooky franchise. When asked if he "anticipate[s] an entire new Addams Family universe expanding again now that you’ve had this entry," Friedlander kept his lips sealed, saying, "I wish I could tell you more," but then teasing that he's "optimistic." The exec then reveled that he would like to bring more Addams Family-based content to Netflix.

Wednesday's extreme popularity bodes well for the success of another Addams Family spinoff. With 1.022 billion hours viewed since its premiere, the show is currently the second most-watched English-language TV series on Netflix, behind Season 4 of Stranger Things, which boasts an impressive 1.352 billion hours streamed.

Will Wednesday Return for Season 2?

Aside from another Addams Family spinoff, some fans are still anxiously waiting to see if Wednesday will be renewed for a second season. If it is, showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are well-prepared, as they previously revealed that they have "at least three or four seasons’ worth of potential storylines for the characters." In terms of a second season, the duo knows what they want focus on next. Gough revealed that he hopes to continue to flesh out Wednesday's (Jenna Ortega) friendship with her werewolf roommate, Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers). "I think like any relationship or any friendship, it can get complicated by other factors," he teased. Millar, on the other hand, wants to focus on Wednesday and Morticia's (Catherine Zeta-Jones) relationship, calling it "essential to the show."

Part of the reason for Wednesday's popularity is Ortega's performance as the titular character, which instantly impressed fans. One viewer called the actor "perfect" for the role, with another referring to her performance as "amazing and unforgettable." Audience members weren't the only ones who praised Ortega's take on Wednesday. Christina Ricci, who played the character in the 1990s film series The Addams Family and appears in Wednesday as Ms. Thornhill, said that "Jenna is incredible" in the show, adding that her performance is "a great modern take on Wednesday."

Season 1 of Wednesday, which follows Wednesday as she attempts to solve supernatural mysteries at Nevermore Academy, is available to stream on Netflix.
