No other details have been revealed about the sequel, including if the original actors will return. The original film took a very different approach from its manga/anime cousin by setting the story in the U.S. as opposed to Japan, as well as other notable changes.

Debuting in 2003, Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s manga Death Note tells the story of a high school genius named Light Yagami, who finds an otherworldly notebook that kills anyone whose name is written in its pages. The anime adaptation released in 2006 and ran until 2007 with 37 episodes.
