Daredevil showrunner Steven S. DeKnight recently described his feelings towards the former Netflix series' upcoming Disney+ revival as "bittersweet."

Responding to a fan, DeKnight, shared his mixed reaction to the news that The Man Without Fear was returning to the small screen without his involvement. "Bittersweet. But all I want is [a] great Daredevil show I can watch with the rest of the fans!" he wrote. DeKnight served as the showrunner for Daredevil Season 1, before being succeeded by Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez for Season 2, and Erik Oleson for Season 3. Netflix canceled the series in 2018, and it (along with the streaming platform's other Marvel shows) has since migrated to Disney+.

DeKnight's tweet isn't his first public comment regarding the Daredevil Disney+ relaunch, either. He previously endorsed a tweet by Oleson which read, "Thrilled to learn that [Daredevil] lives on! Best cast and best fan base EVER!" Of the original Daredevil showrunners, only Petrie and Marco Ramirez are yet to make their views known about the horn-headed vigilante's return to the small screen.

The Daredevil Disney+ series was announced in May 2022, with Matt Corman and Chris Ord reportedly on board to write and executive produce the show. Star Charlie Cox is not officially signed on to reprise the role of Matt Murdock/Daredevil. However, previous comments by Marvel President Kevin Feige suggest Cox will indeed return. "If you were to see Daredevil in upcoming things, Charlie Cox, yes, would be the actor playing Daredevil," the Marvel President said.

Sources close to the production also indicate that the Disney+ Daredevil revival is a continuation of the original Netflix series. If these insider reports are accurate, they seemingly debunk rumors that Marvel Studios intends to reboot the property due to the Netflix version's TV-MA content. Disney+ already courted controversy when it added Daredevil and the other adult-oriented "Defenders Saga" series to its streaming library in March 2022.

Cox previously addressed concerns that a PG-13 Disney+ Daredevil series couldn't work, insisting that Marvel could find a way to preserve the spirit of the original series while toning down its more extreme elements. "[I]f they wanted to make a more PG version of Daredevil, I back them to find a way to do it where it feels totally in keeping with everything we've done. And maybe there's a little less blood, maybe there's a little whatever, but I back them to do it," he said.

Seasons 1-3 of Daredevil are currently streaming on Disney+. The relaunched series does not yet have a release date.
