Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for its upcoming fantasy series, Cursed. The streaming service also revealed that the first season will arrive on July 17.

Based on the novel by Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler, Cursed offers a fresh take on the King Arthur legend. A previously released still showed Katherine Langford's Nimue wielding a sword as she emerged from water -- teasing her tragic destiny as the Lady of the Lake. The minute-long trailer showcases her character in action, hailing her as the "one true" Queen.

In this retelling-cum-origin story, Nimue is a young woman with a strange but powerful gift. Following her mother's death, she's sent on a quest to bring an ancient sword to Merlin, alongside Arthur, an unassuming young mercenary. Her journey puts her in the crosshairs of King Uther and the puritanical Red Paladins; forces that are ravaging the natural world with war and holy terror.

Tom Wheeler serves as showrunner and Executive Producer along with EP Frank Miller. Wheeler also wrote five of the 10 episodes that comprise the first season, which was ordered in full by Netflix in 2018 a year before their book was released.

Based on the novel of the same name by Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler, Cursed stars Katherine Langford, Devon Terrell, Gustaf Skarsgård, Peter Mullan, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Daniel Sharman, Sebastian Armesto, Ella Prebble, Scarlett Rock and Daniella Gad. The series premieres July 17 on Netflix.
