Filming for Season 2 of Netflix's hit fantasy series, The Witcher, remains shut down, but news continues to trickle from the production, providing eagerly-waiting fans with information about the upcoming series' cast and perhaps its plot.
A new report from Redanian Intelligence has revealed that Season 2 will see the addition of a new witcher at Geralt of Rivia's home, Kaer Morhen. The new witcher, named Hemrik, is an original character, absent from Andrzej Sapkowski's novel series. He will be played by stuntman and actor Joel Adrian.
Joining Adrian in Season 2 will be veteran actor Vernon Dobtcheff, who has been cast as an "Older Elven Man;" theater actor Alina Ilin, also playing an elf; Lesley Ewen, as a new character named Meena Coppercloth, and The Great's Scarlett Maltman, whose role is currently unknown.
At the end of The Witcher Season 1, Geralt had found Ciri and it was implied that the two will head to Kaer Morhen for the winter, as they do in Andrzej Sapkowski's novel series. Reports from the set seem to confirm this and suggest that Season 2 will adapt the events of Blood of Elves, in which Ciri is trained by Geralt and the ancient fortress' other monster hunters.
The witchers that appear in the novel have all been cast, including Vesemir, who will be played by Kim Bodnia; Lambert, played by Paul Bullion; Coën, played by Yasen Atour and Eskel, played by Thue Ersted Rasmussen. It should be noted that Season 1 employed non-linear storytelling to expand on the events of the novels, so while it is possible that Hemrik will join these witchers, the Netflix series' original character may also appear in flashbacks.
It is currently unknown when production on Season 2 will resume.
