Messiah will not get a second coming.

Netflix has canceled the drama series after one season, series star Wil Traval announced on his Instagram account.

"It’s a very sad day today. I have just received news from Netflix that there will be no season 2 of Messiah," he wrote. "I wanted to say to all the fans thank you for your support and love. I wish things were different." The photo he posted includes himself, Michelle Monaghan and John Ortiz.

The series follows a CIA agent (Monaghan) who investigates a man (Mehdi Dehbi) who gathers an international following that believes he is the Messiah. She teams up with agents of the FBI and the Messiah to determine if he is truly a divine savior or a skilled con artist.

The series features a large international cast and films all over the world, giving it a large production budget. Furthermore, the spread of the coronavirus making complicated shoots such as Messiah difficult to conduct.

Netflix's Messiah stars Mehdi Dehbi, Tomer Sisley, Michelle Monaghan, John Ortiz, Melinda Page Hamilton and Stefania LaVie Owen.
