Netflix is canceling its adult animated comedy Hoops after only one season.

Netflix's reason to end the series boiled down to viewership vs cost. An inside source recently shared that Netflix decided not to move forward with a second season for the animated comedy after receiving its viewership numbers for Season 1, as reported by Variety.

Hoops debuted on Netflix on Aug. 21. Created by Ben Hoffman, Hoops focused on Ben Hopkins, a foul-mouthed coach for a high school basketball team in Kentucky. In between games, Ben would get into wild escapades with his players.

Ben also dealt with his conflicting relationships with his ex-wife Shannon, and his former pro basketball player father, Barry. The show received poor reviews upon its release and currently sits at a 14% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Hoops was produced by Chris Lord and Phil Miller, who also produced Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. Further strengthening the Into The Spider-Verse connection is star Jake Johnson, who voiced Ben and serves as a producer on the series. Lord and Miller are currently producing a Spider-Verse sequel.

Starring the voices of Jake Johnson, Ron Funches, Natasha Leggero, Cleo King, A.D. Miles and Rob Riggle, Hoops is currently streaming on Netflix.
