Reports suggest that Netflix plans on adapting its period-drama Bridgerton into a video game.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix intends to expand on many of its successful franchises, including Bridgerton, through a variety of immersive experiences. Taking lead from Stranger Things: The Experience, fans of the Regency-era drama can look forward to a potential video game adaptation as well as a dedicated fan convention.

While the details surrounding these potential adaptions are still vague, sources suggest that the franchise's growth is inevitable. "Netflix is nascently exploring all this stuff and they understand that growing in areas that are non-competitive but additive on multiple levels — there’s revenue in marketing and creating shows/movies and events — is good for everybody,” states one of The Hollywood Reporter's unnamed sources.

"A Bridgerton video game and, after Netflix’s virtual Witcher Con on July 9, a Bridgerton fan convention could be on the table, too," says The Hollywood Reporter. "They’re going to spend time and money figuring that out. And they want to do that in partnership with great creators who have an acute understanding of these worlds," concludes the source.

Netflix is already hosting a Bridgerton-themed ball, which is expected to open its doors to fans in late 2021. Guests who book a place will be provided the necessary period-specific attire and engage with fellow fans through dance cards and love tokens. A string quartet will play covers of various pop songs to mimic the show's soundtrack.

While a video game adaption of Bridgerton may seem like a strange avenue to explore, it wouldn't be the first game based on one of the streaming service's properties. Netflix has released tie-in games for Stranger Things, Narcos and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. All of Netflix's video game adaptions have received poor to middling reviews.

Bridgerton follows eight siblings of the aristocratic Bridgerton family as they navigate the complexities of life and love during a period of social change in London. Upon its debut in 2020, the show was met with generally favorable reviews with critics praising the series' sharp-wit, enjoyable characters and decadent production. Bridgerton's second season is currently in production. The series has already been renewed for a third and fourth season.

Bridgerton stars Phoebe Dynevor, Regé-Jean Page, Jonathan Bailey, Nicola Coughlan, Claudia Jessie, Ruby Barker, Golda Rosheuvel, Luke Thompson, Luke Newton, Ruth Gemmell, Polly Walker and Julie Andrews. Season 1 is streaming now on Netflix.
