Netflix proudly announced the enormous success of its original movie Bird Box last Friday, sending out a tweet informing its followers that the horror/suspense film starring Sandra Bullock had been viewed over 45 million times by subscribers, making it the best opening ever for a Netflix film. However, another tweet was sent out by the streaming company on Wednesday, this time of a slightly different tone. The rampant success of the film has led to a social media fad that is labeled as #BirdBoxChallenge, which consists of fans of the film performing everyday tasks while blindfolded. Of course, doing anything blindfolded could lead to undesirable consequences, so Netflix took to Twitter to plead with fans to be careful, saying, "PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE."

The plot of Bird Box consists of survivors in an apocalyptic world wearing blindfolds to prevent demons from haunting their minds, as anyone who sets their eyes on the demons will find themselves staring at their own personal worst nightmare. A still from the film of Sandra Bullock blindfolded became a popular meme when the film first released, and now fans have taken it to another level with the Bird Box Challenge. No serious injuries have yet to be reported, but there have been some videos that ended with comical misfortunes, like a family that blindfolded themselves before trying to run through a doorway, only to have a young child crash into a wall.

Other videos have been harmless, such as people blindfolding themselves while combing their hair or other mundane activities, but Netflix has obviously seen videos that could lead to injury (such as a video of a man driving a car blindfolded) and wanted to make sure its followers know that taking off the blindfolds might not cause fans to visualize their worst nightmares, but it will help avoid other undesirable outcomes.
