While Princess Yue only briefly appeared as a regular human (albeit of royal blood) in Avatar: The Last Airbender, she had a major impact on both Sokka and Avatar Aang. Netflix's upcoming live-action adaptation of the series is currently in the works and it has found its Moon Spirit and Northern Water Tribe leader.

According to Avatar News, the Netflix series has cast Prey star Amber Midthunder as Yue and she recently completed filming. Midthunder, a Sioux actor, is no stranger to sci-fi, fantasy and action. She has appeared in projects such as Hell or High Water, FX’s Legion and the aforementioned Prey.

Amber Midthunder plays Naru in the Predator prequel film. Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years in the past, the film follows the warrior as she tries to protect her tribe from invading aliens, known as Yautja. The first trailer for the film was released in June and teased violent, historical action. Prey releases on Aug. 5.

Midthunder's casting is not the only recent news to emerge from Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender. It was recently confirmed actor A. Martinez will play fellow Northern Water Tribe member Master Pakku, a master waterbender who, in the animated series, teaches both Aang and Katara and even gives the latter a vial of water from the Spirit Oasis, which later allows Katara to save Aang's life.

Midthunder and Martinez join stars Gordon Cormier as Avatar Aang, Kiawentiio Tarbell as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, Dallas Liu as Zuko, Elizabeth Yu as Azula and Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai. It's uncertain how closely the Netflix series will adhere to the source material. The series was announced as a reimagining of the iconic anime-styled series in 2018. Back then, series creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino were attached, though they departed the project shortly after.

Details concerning the plot and characters are scarce. Casting reports thus far suggest the show will feature most, if not all, key characters, though some minor characters, such as Avatar Kuruk, may get larger roles. It also appears Netflix has invested heavily in bringing the world of The Last Airbender to life, giving the live-action show a massive budget of $15 million per episode-- one of the highest budgets given to a television show.

Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender does not yet have a release date.
