Neopets is moving from the small screen to the... small screen.

According to Polygon, Canadian broadcasting company Blue Ant Media is developing an animated TV series based on the online sensation under its production company Beach House Pictures. No plot or character details have been announced, and no release date has been given.

"Beach House Pictures is developing new characters and stories, tapping into the Blue Ant Studios animation team in Canada, to expand the storytelling and bring added dimension to the Neopets kid- and family-friendly brand," the company said in a statement.

A staple of the late '90s and early '00s, Neopets gave players the opportunity to care for virtual pets of all shapes and sizes. Players would play games and compete in challenges to buy clothing and other items for their pets using in-game currency.

The game was created by Adam Powell and Donna Williams in late 1999. A couple of years later, a group of investors led by Doug Dohring acquired a controlling interest in the company. However, they eventually sold it to Viacom. It then moved JumpStart Games in 2014 and the Chinese-owned NetDragon in 2017.
