Despite posting an image of the updated Pulse Rifle for his upcoming Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn-starring 'Alien 5' on Instagram only two weeks ago, director Neill Blomkamp revealed on Twitter today that the film has been put on hold pending the upcoming "Prometheus 2."

alien is kinda holding/ pending prometheus 2. So I shall be working on other things... as much as I love the xeno- and Lt ripley— Иeill BlomkΛmp (@NeillBlomkamp) October 30, 2015

Blomkamp officially announced the film in February to much fan excitement. Since then both Weaver and Biehn came on board -- reprising their roles as Lt. Ellen Ripley and Corporeal Dwayne Hicks -- and Blomkamp has been posting concept art on social media, which for fans of the series has been working wonders in generating buzz for the project.

However, with "Prometheus 2" in full swing -- an its own franchise ready to go -- it seems it may be some time before we see Ripley and Hicks, if at all.
