The Writers Guild of America is officially going on strike. Author Neil Gaiman, who also serves as the series creator for Prime Video's Good Omens, recently addressed the status of Season 2 amid the upcoming absence of writers across U.S. film and television. On social media, Gaiman stated, "I'm in the Writers Guild of America. I wish this wasn't happening and support it absolutely." He went on to answer questions about Good Omens Season 2 for those wondering, writing, "Good Omens 2 is completed and handed in. Although I may not be able to promote it as I had hoped."RELATED: A Good Omens Easter Egg in Aziraphale's Bookshop Honors Terry Pratchett

Gaiman previously confirmed that Good Omens Season 2 was virtually complete back in March when he wrote that it had finished production and post-production. Though he noted that there was still plenty of work for Amazon Studios before the show is ready to be released, including episode dubbing, trailer editing and the production of bonus content.

The WGA Writers Strike

On May 2, members of the Writers Guild of America went on strike in response to the below-average pay and lack of security prevalent throughout the film and television industry, despite the rise of streaming and the imminent issues concerning AI technology and generated content. The strike follows discussions with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which failed to reach an agreement. Contrarily, the WGA recently stated that studios refused to negotiate on proposals to minimize work with no pay and regulate A.I. writing.

Gaiman is not the only major industry figure to voice support for the strike. Recent reports suggest Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director and co-CEO of DC Studios James Gunn will halt development of Superman: Legacy in support of the strike and will leave his day-to-day work at DC Studios to his co-head Peter Safran. It should be noted that this has not been officially confirmed, however.

On top of picket lines outside the various headquarters of major studios in Hollywood and New York, including Disney, Amazon, Netflix and more; the WGA's strike calls on its members to halt all writing, revising, pitching or negotiating with studios and companies of the AMPTP. At the time of writing, no future discussions between the WGA and AMPTP have been scheduled.

Good Omens Season 2 is scheduled to premiere in the summer 2023 on Prime Video.
