Last night's Super Bowl LI marked the end of the NFL season -- and "The Walking Dead" wants to make sure that you know football is over. An ad for the AMC zombie drama aired towards the end of the history-making game, and it let you know in no uncertain terms that "Walking Dead" is coming back -- and taking no prisoners. With Sunday Night Football out of the way, "The Walking Dead" aimed to grab the Super Bowl audience's attention, and the footage of Negan's barbwire-covered bat Lucille smacking a football sure did the trick.
Sunday Night Football has so far been "The Walking Dead's" prime competition. The show even beat Sunday Night Football in the ratings for a stretch back in 2014. "Walking Dead" kicked off the most recent season, season seven, with an episode that also beat Sunday Night Football, but later episodes in 2016 saw a decline in ratings. “The Walking Dead” returns to AMC for the second half of its seventh season on February 12 at 9 pm ET/PT.
“The Walking Dead” stars Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, Chandler Riggs as Carl Grimes, Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon, Melissa McBride as Carol Peleteir, Lauren Cohan as Maggie Green, Danai Gurira as Michonne and more.
