Gargoyles originally aired from 1994 to 1997 and spanned three seasons, though many consider the third season, titled the Goliath Chronicles, to be non-canon. The series centered on a clan of ancient Gargoyles who guard the city at night and turn to stone come sunrise. After being betrayed by their human allies, Goliath and his surviving brethren are cursed to sleep in stone for a thousand years, awakening only when the billionaire industrialist Xanatos raises their castle into the skies and breaks their curse. The series garnered widespread praise for its take on mature topics, its use of Shakespearean themes and its complex story arcs and characters.

The story of Goliath and his allies continues in Dynamite Entertainment's Gargoyles comic, written by original series creator Greg Weisman and illustrated by George Kambadais. The newest line of comics will serve as the fourth season of the story.

Gargoyles is available for streaming on Disney+.
