NBC’s Lands Two Actors for Sci-Fi Pilot Beautiful People

Patrick Heusinger and James Murray have landed top roles in NBC’s sci-fi pilot Beautiful People, Deadline reports.

Created by MAD TV star and Cougar Town co-executive producer Michael McDonald, the drama is set in a near future where androids are looked down upon because of their mechanical origins. It follows the extremely wealthy Lydia, whose late husband founded the company that makes the human-like Mechanicals.

Murray (Primeval) will play Lydia’s son, a successful attorney who bucks his life of privilege by making the controversial suggestion that Mechanicals should have civil rights. Heusinger (Royal Pains) is set to appear as a Mechanical, a “family man” who works in Lydia’s home. But when one of his daughters is killed in an accident, he begins to experience grief and loss — emotions that label him as “defective.”

Stephen Hopkins (Predator 2, 24) will direct the pilot, which is co-produced by ABC Studios and Universal TV.
