Looks like the Kingpin is leaving Kansas. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Vincent D'Onofrio will play the Wizard of Oz in NBC's upcoming ten-episode mini-series "Emerald City." TDescribed as "the enigmatic leader of Emerald City," D'Onofrio, who appeared this year in Netflix's "Daredevil" as the series' villainous Kingpin, will play "a man of science in a world of magic, he rules through inspiration, fear and a tenuous accord with the grand witches."

The series won't be a strict adaptation of the classic tale, either; "Emerald City" will star "True Detective's" Adria Arjona as a 20-year-old Dorothy Gale who is transported to the Land of Oz alongside her K9 police dog. THR describes the series as featuring "competing kingdoms, lethal warriors, dark magic and a bloody battle for supremacy" -- which makes "Emerald City" sound a little more like "Game of Thrones."

If "Emerald City" sounds familiar, its because it was originally slated for the 2013-2014 TV season and then picked up with a straight-to-series order in January 2014. Initial plans for the series fell through when NBC and original producers Josh Friedman and Matt Arnold failed to agree on a vision for the series. The show has returned, with David Schulner ("Dracula") and Shaun Cassidy as producers.
