NBC Shakes Up Its Midseason, Shelves Event Until Late February

NBC shook up its programming lineup today with the unveiling of a midseason schedule that brings back Parks and Recreation, moves 30 Rock to 10 p.m., introduces The Cape, and temporarily shelves The Event. Or, in the words of The New York Times: "NBC Scrambles Jets." The network also renewed 30 Rock for another season.

We reported this morning that The Event was expected to relaunch in January, but the official word is that the struggling series will be replaced by The Cape from early January until the end of February. The superhero drama, about an honest cop framed for a series murders who dons a costumed identity to clear his name, will premiere with a two-hour episode on Sunday, Jan. 9, before slipping into its regular time slot at 9 p.m. Mondays beginning Jan. 17. The Event will return on with a two-hour episode on Feb. 28 before resuming its regular schedule on March 7.

Much of NBC's reshuffling appears aimed at strengthening its 10 p.m. hour, which has never bounced back from the Jay Leno debacle. The network is adding David E. Kelley's legal drama Harry's Law to Mondays beginning Jan. 17, replacing it with a relocated Parenthood on March 7. It will also move 30 Rock to 10 p.m. Thursdays, followed by the freshman comedy Outsourced.
