NBC is developing a fantasy drama based on "Midnight, Texas," the series of novels by bestselling author Charlaine Harris, whose Sookie Stackhouse books inspired HBO's "True Blood."

Entertainment Weekly reports the adaptation will be written by Monica Owusu-Breen ("Fringe," "Alias"), who will executive produce with David Janollari ("Six Feet Under"). It's targeted for a fall 2016 premiere.

Harris' "Midnight, Texas" trilogy revolves around a creepy little town where our world collides with that of the supernatural in dangerous ways. The first book, “Midnight Crossroad," debuted last year, followed in May by "Day Shift." The final novel, "Night Shift," will be released next year.

“I’m looking forward to this new venture," Harris said in a statement. "Seeing my stories told in a different medium is always fascinating."
