The first poster for National Treasure: Edge of History has been released alongside new images from the upcoming Disney+ series.

Entertainment Weekly debuted the poster and images as part of its Fall 2022 TV Preview coverage. Some new plot details for Edge of History, which will stream alongside other legacy sequel series like Turner & Hooch and The Mighty Duck: Game Changers this December, have also been revealed. The first season will follow Lisette Olivera's Jess Valenzuela, a Mexican-American and a Dreamer who at the beginning of Season 1 is "grieving the death of her mother. She doesn't know her father, who died when she was young, but had always been told by her single parent that he was a reckless, good-for-nothing thief. That is, until she's set on a course to find a lost treasure with ties to her own family history."

The National Treasure franchise began in 2004 with the release of the first film, which followed historian Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage) as he attempts to steal the Declaration of Independence. The film was a major box office success and was followed by a sequel in 2007 titled, National Treasure: Book of Secrets. A third National Treasure film was announced in September 2008 and remains in development. Edge of History will instead serve as the next installment in the franchise and will introduce audiences to a new cast of treasure-seeking characters.

Familiar Faces Return in Edge of History

The upcoming Disney+ series will, however, feature the return of two familiar faces from the film series: Harvey Keitel's F.B.I. Special Agent Peter Sadusky and Justin Bartha's computer expert Riley Poole. Co-showrunner Marianne Wibberley has stated that Keitel is in Edge of History "a lot. His presence plays through the whole thing" because his character's grandson, Liam (Stargirl's Jake Austin Walker), is also a major part of the series. Wibberley also revealed that in the 15 years since the 2007 sequel, Bartha's Riley has become a superstar within the National Treasure universe and is now the author of The Templar Treasure and Other Myths that are True, the host of a popular podcast and has landed a juicy Netflix deal.

One character who won't be appearing in Edge of History's first season is Ben Gates as Cage was unable to reprise the role. However, co-showrunner Cormac Wibberley has stated that the series does have a plan in place should Cage agree to appear in future seasons of the National Treasure sequel series. "We would love to bring any of the other veterans if we get another season. We have roles for all of them," Wibberley said, namedropping National Treasure stars Jon Voight and Diane Kruger as two other actors he'd love to see return for Edge of History.

National Treasure: Edge of History also stars Lyndon Smith, Zuri Reed, Antonio Cipriano, Jordan Rodrigues and Catherine Zeta-Jones. The first season will launch on Disney+ with a two-episode premiere on December 14.
