What would it take for Black Swan actress Natalie Portman to return to her roots with a sequel to The Professional? Not much, apparently — original director Luc Besson simply needs to get behind the lens in order for it to happen.

At the Toronto International Film Festival, MTV asked Portman if she would be interested in reprising her role of Mathilda in a sequel to The Professional, also known as Léon.

"Luc won't direct it himself, and so I'm only interested if he [directs]," she said. "I told him if he would do it himself, I would do it in two seconds. But he won't."

I'm sure that many fans would be curious to see where Mathilda has landed all of these years later, but without Besson's involvement, perhaps it's best to let The Professional rest in peace. Besides, how could a sequel go forward without Jean Reno? His chemistry with Portman was such an important ingredient to that film's success, so much so that it's difficult to imagine a sequel without Reno's involvement. That said, if Besson and Portman can make this film a reality, I'll gladly pay the price of admission and risk some disappointment in the process.
