Game Of Thrones star Natalie Dormer will soon be trading sword and sorcery for horror, as the actress has been cast in a lead role for Showtime's upcoming Penny Dreadful spinoff series Penny Dreadful: City of Angels.
The series will take place in 1938 Los Angeles and follow Detective Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto) as he is caught up in a horrendous murder plot that reflects the history of the famous city. According to Variety, Dormer will play Magda, a charismatic demon who takes on many forms and serves as both an ally and an enemy. Dormer was previously affiliated with Showtime during her time in The Tudors.
Running from May 2014 to June 2016, the original Penny Dreadful series featured many characters from 19th century British and Irish Gothic fiction, such as Count Dracula and Victor Frankenstein, while also making significant changes to them. The spinoff was first announced in November 2018 and does not yet have a premiere date announced.
Game of Thrones Season 8, the show’s final season, will premiere April 14, featuring six episodes with longer-than-usual runtimes. The HBO drama stars Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister, Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister, Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark, Maisie Williams as Arya Stark and Kit Harington as Jon Snow.
