After the success of the first series, the Naruto universe gained the hearts of many of its viewers. Luckily, the journey didn't end after Naruto's failed search for Sasuke. The filler-heavy Naruto Shippuden followed shortly after, bringing with it a wide range of beloved characters, interesting story arcs, and inventive jutsu that were as varying as they were powerful.
Yet some jutsu were definitely more powerful, and useful, than others. With many of Naruto Shippuden's new jutsu being fleshed out in its near-300 fillers, some of these overpowered powers might be easy ones to miss. However, some jutsu stand out due to the advantageous effects, intense power, or extreme versatility they provide to their users.
10 Baji's Mute Jutsu Could Permanently Silence His Opponents
Baji was the leader of the group of bandits who kidnaped the Headman's daughter. Despite having a band of loyal lackeys at his disposal, Baji willingly sacrificed his men to preserve his own life. Baji solidified his defeat after foolishly taking Shikamaru hostage; he was quickly outsmarted and captured with the Shadow Paralysis Jutsu.
Baji's prominence as a bandit leader was due to his unique jutsu: the Mouth Seal Technique. By having an opponent answer any of his questions, Baji could permanently mute their voices. This jutsu was unbreakable by anyone but Baji and essentially destroyed his opponent's ability to communicate or strategize.
9 Hayate Gekko Was More Like A Chameleon With His Transparent Escape Technique
Hayate Gekko was a special-jonin from Konohagakure. Highly proficient in kenjutsu, the sword-attack style, Hayate utilized dual shadow clones to overwhelm his opponents. He was killed by Baki, a Sunagakure ninja, during the Chunin Exams, and later reanimated by Kabuto to fight against the Konohagakure during the Fourth Great Ninja War.
Hayate's sword skills did not make the jonin special: his mastery of the Transparent Escape Technique, which rendered its user completely invisible, did. Hayate used it to infiltrate enemy territory to gather intel; he was Hiruzen Sarutobi's personal choice for keeping tabs on Kabuto Yakushi, Orochimaru's right-hand man.
8 The Leaf-Style Willow Jutsu Was Kosuke's Greatest & Only Creation
Kosuke Maruboshi was regarded as Konohagakure's "Eternal Genin." After losing teammates, Kosuke placed great importance on protecting his comrades; he elected to stay behind to distract a platoon of Iwigakure ninjas to allow Naruto to escape. Despite his low rank, Kosuke utilized a wide arsenal of jutsu to successfully defeat them.
Kosuke's abilities included multiple Elemental releases, a fake-foot bomb, and the Shuriken Shadow Clone jutsu. He created the Leaf-Style Willow, a genjutsu that combined kinjutsu to paralyze his enemies; by distracting his enemies with a multitude of flash blades resembling a willow's branches, Kosuke could cut them down as easily as trees.
7 Jako's Liquid Chakra Was Unique, Versatile & Virtually Indestructible
Jako was the leader of the gang of thieves responsible for stealing a gold bear from the daimyo's sister; he kidnaped Sakura Haruno in an attempt to barter for it after losing the bear to Team 7. After facing Naruto and Sasuke, he lost as a result of his own jutsu being turned against him.
Jako's jutsu shot liquidized chakra from his wrists: once attached, it was irremovable by anyone but Jako himself. Incredibly versatile, it could form ropes to bind his targets or be fired at high pressure to form bullet-like projectiles. The chakra could also create objects, like swords or shields, which Jako wielded with great proficiency in combat.
6 The Leaf Dragon God Made Master Chen Legendary
Master Chen was a Konohagakure jonin and one of its legendary taijutsu masters. After his student's death, Chen faked his own and went into hiding; he soundly defeated Rock Lee after the latter sought his mentorship. During the Fourth Ninja War, he fought Lee again as a reanimation and was finally defeated.
Chen was renowned for creating his signature technique: the Leaf Dragon God. The attack, initiated by an extremely powerful kick, used circulating air to form a whirlwind. As the Dragon God took shape, this semi-autonomous beast could strike opponents repeatedly, slicing their flesh, and was capable of defeating three people simultaneously.
5 The Iburi Clan Could Enter Their Opponent's Bodies With Their Living-Smoke Jutsu
Kakashi encountered the Iburi Clan during his time in the Anbu; the clan was forced to live in a cave due to their unpredictable jutsu. They willingly became Orochimaru's test subjects after he promised to stabilize their ability, but they were exterminated after the former-sannin attempted to gather enough Iburi blood to replicate the Iburi's kekkei genkai.
Despite its drawbacks, the Iburi's jutsu allowed them to become living smoke capable of interacting with the physical world. In this form, they were virtually impervious to damage, could enter enemies' bodies to possess them or else kill them by oxidizing their cells. But as the ability couldn't be fully controlled, accidental transformation on a windy day meant death by dissolution for any Iburi Clan member.
4 Fuka's Reaper Death Kiss Stole Chakra & Souls
Fuka was one of the grave robbers responsible for digging up four of the Twelve Guardian Shinobi. Alongside her group, Fuka tried capturing Sora to steal the faux-jinchuriki's Nine-Tails chakra. She used a variety of techniques while fighting Naruto, but she was defeated after the Knuckle-Headed Ninja destroyed her hair, which housed her soul.
Fuka gained her vast array of jutsu through her own technique: the Reaper Death Kiss. By kissing them, Fuka could suck the chakra and soul from her opponent, as well as all knowledge of their ninjutsu. Some of her abilities included body switching, all five Elemental Releases, eye-contact paralysis, and a hair-offensive technique similar to Jiraiya's.
3 Hotaru's Forbidden Jutsu Was Akin To The Atomic Bomb
Hotaru was a kunoichi who sought tutelage under Utakata, the jinchuriki of the Six-Tails. Shiranami forced her to use Fury, the Tsuchigumo Clan's Forbidden Jutsu, to destroy her village, but it was saved after Utakata suppressed the explosion in Tailed Beast Form; Hotaru lost her master shortly afterward when Pain killed Utakata during his attempt to revive the Ten-Tails.
The Fury forbidden technique was capable of creating an explosion large enough to wipe out an entire village. After implanting it in a subject's body, the user was required to amass a large amount of chakra with the Tsuchigumo Style: Forbidden Life Technique Release: Creation of Heaven and Earth. Once the chakra had reached its limit, the user could release a power akin to the real-world atomic bomb.
2 Pakura Proved That Scorch Release Was Sunagakure's Strongest Technique
Pakura was the famed Sunagakure kunoichi and sole wielder of Scorch Style. She was the former mentor to Maki before being killed by Kirigakure ninja while journeying to their village as a peace ambassador. She was later reanimated by Kabuto to fight against Sunagakure in the Fourth Ninja War, but she was sealed away by her former student.
Scorch Release was a nature transformation kekkei genkai: by combining two chakra natures, Pakura could create heat orbs capable of mummifying her opponents. With a single touch, all moisture in the target's body was immediately evaporated, instantly killing them. She desiccated many soldiers of the Allied Shinobi Forces and even created an orb large enough to burn down an entire forest.
1 Guren's Crystal Release Could Trap & Crystalize Opponents
Guren was an Otogakure ninja and a former candidate for Orochimaru's Body Possession Technique, due to her unique and powerful kekkei genkai. The former-sannin elected her to guard Yukimaru, a boy with the ability to partially control the Three-Tails, but Guren later turned on her master to protect the innocent boy. She escaped Orochimaru's service and, alongside her partner, Gozu, fled with Yukimaru to begin life together as a family.
Much like Haku, Guren was able to use one-handed seals to access her unique Crystal Release: she could create indestructible shuriken, crystal platforms capable of flight, and vast structures to entrap her opponents or impede their movements. Guren could convert all matter into high-durability crystal to create a variety of weapons or armor; her deadliest use of this jutsu allowed her to crystalize her enemies on a molecular level before shattering them to dust.
