Hidan was a vampiric member of the Akatsuki and a villain in the second act of the Naruto series. He was most well known for his murder of Asuma Sarutobi, a crime that would set Shikamaru on a path of revenge and irreversibly alter the trajectory of his character.

Despite his immortality and extendable scythe, Hidan is one of his organization's weakest members. By gauging how he would fare against a diverse roster of the series' shinobi, we can better ascertain who he is equipped to defeat without the benefit of Kakuzu's assistance.

10 Could Beat: Zabuza's Water Jutsu Would Fail To Destroy His Body

5 zabuza momochi from naruto

Zabuza's strongest ability was the water dragon, a massive aquatic attack that could flood much of an entire forest. However, it required the manipulation of nearby fluid to utilize properly, and he was able to survive his attack being turned against him by Kakashi.

Considering that it wouldn't remove any of Hidan's limbs, his immortality should render him impervious to Zabuza's technique. If he doesn't dodge it. Since Hidan and his opponent are both melee fighters (and because he only needs to scratch him in order to win), a direct confrontation will invariably conclude in the Akatsuki member's favor.

9 Would Lose To: The Fourth Raikage Can Strike Faster Than Hidan Would Anticipate

The 4th Raikage Using His Lightning Cloak Against Sasuke At The 5 Kage Summit

The Fourth Raikage was able to move virtually as fast as lightning and could unleash punches of similarly devastating caliber. He was strong enough to crack Jugo's shell with a single punishing strike and fast enough to keep up with Minato, the Fourth Hokage.

Though A's almost exclusive reliance on melee combat would play to Hidan's favor, the villain's reflexes weren't even sufficient to dodge Shikamaru's shadow possession (on two separate occasions). It follows that the Raikage could pulverize every bone in Hidan's body before he could retaliate.

8 Could Beat: Dosu Has Nothing That Would Stop Hidan's Advance

Naruto Dosu

Dosu's sound gauntlet may be useful for rupturing eardrums and sending vibrations throughout his target's body, but it does little tangible damage against a corporeal form. Consequently, Hidan would be relatively undaunted by it, continuing his attack with impunity.

Since the Sound ninja doesn't have any utilities outside his offensive by which to physically stop the cultist's scythe, he would soon become another offering to his dark lord.

7 Would Lose To: Might Guy Is Superior To Hidan In Strength & Speed

Might Guy From Naruto

Might Guy was able to move at unprecedented velocities with the more gates he opened, becoming faster than even the Raikage by the seventh. He has the skill to match; during Itachi and Kisame's attack on the village, he managed to keep up with both villains without ever making eye contact.

Considering his combat alacrity, he would have little difficulty preventing Hidan's scythe from touching him if he decides to employ his nunchucks. Additionally, using the "Daytime Tiger" shockwave technique would prevent the villain from ever getting close before being decimated.

6 Could Beat: Kankuro's Poison Wouldn't Be Detrimental To Hidan

Shino fights kankuro

Kankuro's triple puppets may be deadly against most characters, but they rely on poison rather than raw force. Since Hidan is undying, the Sand shinobi's venoms would not be notably debilitating even if he was struck by them.

By capitalizing on Kankuro's lacking reflexes (proven through his battle against Shino and Sasori), the cultist could cast out his extending scythe and sample a taste of the hero's blood. After carving through the dolls his adversary sends in a final desperate bid to stop him, Hidan would create his ritual circle and conclude the battle.

5 Would Lose To: Gaara's Sand Coffin Is The Perfect Counter To Hidan's Durability

Gaara speaking to the allied Shinobi Forces in Naruto Shippuden

The many creative ways Gaara can utilize his sand evince that he'd have more success against Hidan than he did against Deidara. By surrounding himself in a barrier as hard as steel, he could strike out the cultist with impunity without ever risking harm.

Gaara's Sand Coffin has proven devastating against his targets' bodies as evinced through the damage he managed to inflict against Kimimaro in spite of his steel bones. By casting the same jutsu against Hidan, he'd crush his body and reduce him to pulp - regardless if he was still alive afterward.

4 Could Beat: Ino's Mind Transfer Wouldn't Sufficiently Protect Her

Ino mind transfer

Ino's "Mind Transfer" may prove useful against Hidan if he has already drawn her blood and is actively attempting to sacrifice her since he must remain still throughout the process. However, it still wouldn't protect her in a conventional fight.

Given that Hidan has vastly greater experience and weaponry (with his scythe able to stretch dozens of meters for a devastating and surprising ranged attack), the kunoichi couldn't hold out against him so long as he forgoes his ritual and fights traditionally.

3 Would Lose To: Hidan Couldn't Touch Itachi's Susanoo

Itachi susanoo

Itachi has a number of creative ways to brutalize Hidan, the most immediately evident of which is the power of his Susanoo. Not only does it provide an impervious guard against the cultist's wanton scythe, it can also crush its target with punishing blows.

Additionally, the Akatsuki member has never illustrated a resistance to genjutsu. This entails that the rogue Uchiha member would have him in the palm of his hand even without resorting to his armor, as he could subject Hidan to a nightmarish hallucination he wouldn't soon escape from.

2 Could Beat: Hidan's Bloodletting Is More Viable Than Torune's Poison In A Melee Engagement

torune using jutsu

Torune's disadvantages against Hidan are untenable. Not only does he lack a weapon that might block the villain's scythe (preferring to rely on the desiccating power of the poison his fingertips secrete instead), his venoms themselves would be worthless against an immortal target.

Hidan does not have such limitations and could end the fight after the first exchange of blows was dealt. By the time the Foundation agent realized how little his abilities affected the cultist, it will have already been too late.

1 Would Lose To: Kakuzu Knows Hidan's Tricks & How To Counter Them

Hidan and Kakuzu from Naruto Shippuden

Having been partnered with Hidan for a considerable amount of time, Kakuzu understands the secrets behind his bloodletting and how to counter it. Though he technically doesn't have anything to prevent the zealot from drawing his blood and proceeding to stab himself, he could detach his hearts into monsters that would force him out of his ritual circle.

Once Hidan had been ousted, Kakuzu can re-engage him with the dozens of release forms he had mastered and apply constant pressure so that his adversary will never have an opportunity to skewer him again.
