Shino Aburame is a skilled ninja in the Naruto universe, unique and perturbing in equal measure. As his eerie appearance may suggest, his body serves as a nest for a number of insects, occasionally even crawling from pores in his skin.

This relationship is symbiotic and one that greatly assists in his combat endeavors. Each of his tiny creatures is able to siphon the chakra of his adversaries and add them to his own, resulting in the many gruesome defeats of his enemies. By matching Shino against a number of diverse shinobi, it can be understood how lethal he is in comparison to the rest of the world around him.

10 COULD BEAT: Jirobo By Infesting Him With Bugs

Jirobo of the sound four

Jirobo of the South Gate was one of Orochimaru's elite lieutenants and a feared member of the Sound Four. His strength was so great that he could lift a fully expanded Choji high above his head and even capture the entire group within an earth dome.

Unfortunately for him, he primarily relies on rudimentary taijutsu attacks in order to win his battles. This gives Shino a splendid opportunity for his insects to overtake him, as the brute makes no effort in dodging the bugs and would be devoured as a consequence.

9 WOULD LOSE TO: Haku With His Ice Mirrors & Speed

Naruto Haku

Haku was a close ally and friend to Zabuza, capable of arranging mirrors around his opponents and hurling needles at them while he darted between portals. It necessitated that only the fastest shinobi would be able to defeat him, as they had to catch him as he was leaping from one refuge to the next.

Since Shino's bugs rely on surprise and numbers rather than raw speed, it reasons that they should not be able to ensnare him in the brief window Shino has to strike. It would result in their master's defeat, torso full of spikes.

8 COULD BEAT: Choji & His Terrible Maneuverability

Much like Jirobo, Choji is a straightforward fighter, depending on brute strength and expansion in order to eradicate his enemies. However, becoming a larger target would only entail that Aburame's insects are even less noticeable, depleting him of his energy until he was no longer able to maintain his expansion.

Choji's only reprieve in circumventing this would be by turning into a human boulder, but he has terrible maneuverability in this form (as seen through his fight against Dosu). Thus, his defeat would be inevitable.

7 WOULD LOSE TO: Kiba's Keen Senses

Kiba's Fang Over Fang and Man-Beast transformation techniques would both be marvelous when defeating Shino. One of the insect ninja's preferred tactics is by retreating into his surroundings and waiting for his bugs to infiltrate his opponent. Given Inuzaka's acute sense of smell, this would be virtually impossible for him to accomplish.

Further, the insects at Aburame's disposal could not hope to keep up with their quarry as he transformed into two thundering tornadoes and raged across the battlefield. With Shino's defense being relatively unimpressive, his defeat is inevitable.

6 COULD BEAT: Sakura Without A Way To Counter His Bugs

Sakura Haruno adult smirking in Boruto

Sakura's medical ninjutsu and physical brawn render her a sufficient member of Team Seven. She was instrumental in the efforts of the Fourth Shinobi War and the defeat of the Akatsuki, striking down the notorious Sasori in the case of the latter.

Despite her accolades, Sakura has no means of effectively countering Shino's insects as they cling to her body and deprive her of her chakra. With the woman's strength being contingent upon it, she would soon be denied of her only tool by which she could hope to defeat the ninja in the first place.

5 WOULD LOSE TO: Gaara's Strong & Sturdy Sand

Naruto_ gaara

Gaara's sand serves a myriad of functions, the most prominent being its ability to shield him. While it is true that tiny creatures might be able to penetrate it (as seen through Deidara's clay sculptures), this was only possible because they were inanimate.

With a concentrated barrier harder than steel, the Sand Kazekage could launch a number of stalagmites in all directions, skewering Shino wherever he might choose to hide. Further, Gaara's ability to fly would inhibit Shino's insect army, forcing them to abandon stealth to stand a chance of latching onto his body.

4 COULD BEAT: Yoroi In A Long-Ranged Match

Yoroi

Yoroi was one of Orochimaru's minions that were deployed to succeed in the Chunin Exam. He could siphon the chakra of anyone he touched, with his ability astonishingly similar to Shino's own.

The fundamental difference is that Shino's can afford him much more range and personal safety. Further, he is able to create bug clones of himself by which to surprise his opponent, the scattered insects clinging to his enemy's skin and depleting their chakra rapidly.

3 WOULD LOSE TO: Sasori's Puppets & Wooden Body

Sasori was able to command a small legion of puppets, proving his station as the world's foremost expert in his craft. The Akatsuki member had even devised his own special toxin, one at which there was no antidote for at the time of its conception.

Given Shino's tie against Kankuro (and Kankuro's decisive loss against Sasori), it follows that the Aburame would meet the same fate. It is especially true since Shino's insects would have a reduced effect against his wooden body.

2 COULD BEAT: Hayate's Straightforward Tactics

hayate naruto

Hayate was the announcer of the Chunin Exam and one that was worthy of the honor. Using blinding speed and shadow clones, he could move at such a trajectory that there were dozens of after images of himself.

However, given Shino's ability to avoid blades and using substitutions as necessary, it reasons that these direct melee tactics would not be effective. Moreover, Hayate would only have a single chance at attempting them before being completely overrun by the insects that would drain his chakra and leave him a vulnerable target for Shino to finish off.

1 WOULD LOSE TO: Neji & His Byakugan

Neji Hyuga from Naruto with his hand up

Neji has experience in fighting swarms of tiny monsters, as seen through his battle against Kidomaru. His deflection technique would prevent any of Aburame's insects from touching him, shredding their bodies with a single graceful spin.

Shino would not be able to hide from him on account of Hyuga's Byakugan. Since the bug user has no other means of halting him, Neji would be able to advance upon his adversary, disabling him with a magnificent flurry of melee strikes and deactivating his chakra points. Without an ability to cling to walls and dart among trees like Neji's Sound Four enemy, Shino has no means of protecting himself.
