The Naruto franchise became a global hit because it told a great story that included an impressive amount of world-building. The franchise's ninja world is filled with skilled and powerful characters, and most of them hail from one of the Five Great Shinobi Nations. The Hidden Mist Village is one of these nations, and it can be found in the Land of Water.

Ninja from the Mist Village tend to have an affinity for Water-Style jutsu, but a significant number of them are also more than capable of using swords in combat. The Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist are considered to be the greatest blade-wielding ninja in the village, and they each wield one of the village's seven mystical blades. Each of these blades has a unique ability and design, but some are better than others.

7 Kubikiribocho Is Basically A Massive Broadsword

Zabuza With His Executioner's Blade

Zabuza was the first real threat Naruto faced, and he was certainly strong enough to take on several of the characters who appeared in Shippuden. The Demon of the Hidden Mist was feared because he had mastered the Silent Killing Technique, but his sword, Kubikiribocho, was just as dangerous.

This sword is known as the Executioner's Blade, and it can use the iron in its victim's blood to regenerate. In terms of design, Kubikiribocho looks like a massive broadsword that is as long as a fully grown human. It also sports a circle near the tip and a semi-circle near its handle.

6 Kabutowari Is Just An Axe Connected To A Large Hammer

Kabutowari In The 4th Great Ninja War

The history behind the Ninja Wars was a tad complicated, but the fourth war was the only one that seemingly involved each of the Mist's legendary swords. Kabutowari did a significant amount of damage during the war, despite the fact that it was simply a giant axe connected to a massive hammer by a thin rope.

Kabutowari may have a simplistic design, but it is a very strong weapon. The sword is said to be able to break through any defense because the wielder has to strike with the axe first before slamming the back of it with the hammer. The force and strength of the hammer then cause objects to either break or shatter.

5 Nuibari Is A Large Needle With Thread

Nuibari In The 4th Great Ninja War

There were certain characters Kakashi should've fought, but he did end up fighting several members of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen during the war. Kushimaru Kuriarare was one of those swordsmen, and he wielded Nuibari, which is basically a long needle with wire that acts like a thread.

This sword can apparently pierce anything, and it can then use its wire to stitch things together. Nuibari can be used against individual opponents, but it works best against groups, as it can pierce through multiple enemies and then stitch them together to form bundles of corpses.

4 Kiba Is A Pair Of Twin Blades That Are Arguably The Sharpest In The Series

Kiba Used In The 4th Great Ninja War

Only a handful of Mist ninja had what it takes to become Mizukage, and Ameyuri Ringo was one of them. She was the only female member of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen's greatest generation, and she wielded the twin swords known as Kiba.

These swords are enhanced with lightning, which is why they can produce lightning-based attacks, and their natural cutting power is significantly greater than a normal sword's. They are considered to be the sharpest swords in existence, and in terms of design, they are double-edged blades with bladed prongs near their tips and handles.

3 Shibuki Is Equipped With Explosive Tags

Shibuki In The 4th Great Ninja War

Of all the swords, Shibuki is the only one that doesn't feel like an actual blade because its primary goal is to cause explosions. The blade itself is split into two sides, with one being a narrow cutting edge for actual sword attacks.

The second side is a wide platform that holds a large scroll filled with explosive tags. Segments of this scroll detach when they are ignited, but it only works when they make contact with their target. This detach feature was added to make sure the wielder had enough time to escape the explosion's blast radius.

2 Hiramekarei Can Have Several Shapes

Hiramekarei Cutting Black Zetsu

There are a few characters Sasuke never got the chance to fight, but he did have an encounter with Chojuro and his Hiramekarei. This sword has an odd, yet interesting design, as it has a wide and flat blade with noticeable curves near its base. It sports two handles that are connected by a cord, and it also has two holes near its tip.

Hiramekarei is capable of storing chakra, and once a command is given, that chakra will coat the blade after it is released from the holes. The sword can then assume several forms, including a hammer, a long-sword, or a pair of twin swords.

1 Samehada Is A Sentient, Living Weapon

Kisame Using Samehada Against Killer B

One of the harshest realities about being a Jinchuriki is the fact that they have to fight powerful enemies like the Akatsuki. Kisame may have contributed to one of the Akatsuki's biggest failures, but he still wielded a sword that was perfect for dealing with Jinchuriki.

Samehada is considered to be the most terrifying of the seven swords, as it is a sentient creature capable of absorbing the chakra of anyone it slices. In terms of appearance, Samehada's "blade" is comprised of many downward-facing scales, and its tip is a large mouth filled with sharp teeth. The sword can also transfer consumed chakra to its owner, and if needed, it can fuse with its owner's body.
