Naruto's Senju Clan is known to be one of the strongest ninja clans in the entire story. Having existed long before the formation of the hidden villages, the Senju Clan was always considered to be full of mighty warriors.

Some of the strongest characters in the story, such as Hashirama Senju, Tobirama Senju, and Tsunade Senju, come from this clan, so their importance to the story cannot be understated. While the Senju Clan certainly does add a lot of depth to the story, there are things about it that simply don't make sense.

10 Only Hashirama Senju Had The Wood Release Kekkei Genkai

Hashirama Senju was quite easily the most important person in the history of the Senju Clan. Not only did he become the strongest person in the Warring States Era, but he was also the only one with the Wood Release Kekkei Genkai. Surprisingly, no other member of this clan had this Kekkei Genkai, which simply doesn't make sense. Hashirama's grandchildren never showed the ability to use this power either.

9 They Shouldn't Have Been Able To Fight The Uchiha

Naruto Madara And Hashirama make peace

The Warring States Era saw the Senju fight against the Uchiha constantly in a battle for supremacy. The two clans were always at each other's throats and almost equally matched. Looking at the fact that the Senju didn't have any inherited special power, they shouldn't have been able to match the Uchiha Clan. Hashirama had the power of the Wood Release to match the Sharingan while Tobirama was a born genius, but the rest of the Senju Clan did not possess any comparable skills at the time.

8 The Origins Of The Senju Clan Remain Unexplained

Hashirama Before He Became Hokage

The Senju Clan is said to be powerful because they're the direct descendants of the younger son of the Sage of Six Paths, Asura Otsutsuki. However, it hasn't been explained why the clan holds the Senju name, or how it's come to be. Logically, Asura's children should bear the Otsutsuki name, so the sudden emergence of the Senju name doesn't make much sense without more information.

7 The Clan's Bloodline Ends With Tsunade

The Senju Clan is heavily implied to be dwindling in numbers, with Tsunade Senju being the last living person to bear the name. When Konohagakure was formed, a decent portion of the people living there belonged to the Senju Clan, while the other half was mostly made up of the Uchiha Clan.

Even Hashirama Senju had children of his own who were never seen in the entire story. With all things considered, the Senju Clan should probably be thriving instead of ending.

6 There Was No Clan Leader After Hashirama Senju

Hashirama Senju during war

Hashirama Senju became the leader of the Senju Clan at a young age. By fighting countless battles, he rose to the top of the era and became known as the strongest. Hashirama was rightly made the clan leader, and this became a crucial step toward the formation of Konohagakure and a more peaceful world. Surprisingly, there isn't a known Senju Clan leader after Hashirama Senju. Undoubtedly, the title should've passed to Tobirama Senju, but Hashirama is the last official known leader.

5 The Senju Shouldn't Have Been Favored Over The Uchiha

It is no secret that the members of the Uchiha Clan dealt with quite a lot of problems during their time in Konohagakure. The clan was ostracized and eventually forced into a corner of the village where they were brutally massacred by Itachi. However, the Senju were just as hostile as the Uchiha during the Warring States. If the Uchiha were considered hostile because of the Sharingan, the Senju were also needlessly hostile because they did exactly what the Uchiha did. And yet, the Senju were somehow treated as heroes while the Uchiha were vilified.

4 The Members Of The Senju Clan Simply Vanished

The Senju Clan had a lot of members when Konohagakure was formed, but that didn't last forever. There were several unnamed members of the clan along with the known ones like Toka Senju who simply vanished.

In comparison, the Uchiha Clan had significantly more members around until Itachi Uchiha took it upon himself and massacred everyone. It remains unknown where the Senju Clan members went.

The Uzumaki and Senju clans stand together

The Senju Clan is known to have been distant relatives of the Uzumaki Clan. However, it isn't known how they are exactly related and what makes them different. Both the Senju and the Uzumaki are descendants of Asura Otsutsuki, yet their connection to each other remains a big mystery even today. The Uzumaki Clan was also nowhere to be seen during the Warring States Era, when they could've aided the Senju as their distant relatives. It is possible that this will eventually be explained in the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations series.

2 Tsunade Senju Was The Only Known Member Of The Clan Who Wasn't A Well-Rounded Ninja

Tsunade Using Mitotic Regeneration: A Thousand Healing in the 4th great ninja war

Tsunade Senju is the granddaughter of Hashirama Senju and an incredibly powerful ninja of Konohagakure. Just like Hashirama, she ended up becoming the Hokage of the village. While Tsunade was quite powerful in her prime, her skill with genjutsu was simply not all that great. This makes her the odd one out as the members of the Senju Clan were known to be all-rounders in all three arts. In fact, their Senju name literally means "a thousand skills," implying they are skilled in all arts. For some reason, this didn't apply to Tsunade Senju.

1 They Should've Had A Reputation Similar To The Uchiha

Tobirama Senju Naruto

The Senju Clan members were quite powerful during the Warring States Era, and they killed a lot of shinobi. Along with the Uchiha, they were two of the strongest clans who dominated the battlefield at the time. It was no surprise that the Uchiha made a reputation for themselves as a ruthless and dangerous clan with how many lives they took. Still, the same should've been the case for the Senju Clan. Somehow, they never acquired this infamous reputation and were instead praised.
