Sasuke Uchiha was the secondary protagonist of the Naruto universe. He is shrouded in controversy due to the violent actions he took in order to properly avenge his clan, with many of the series' characters and fans alike divided by what the young ninja has done.

Such contention is understandable, and he has made some of the best (and worst) calls of the series, with his decisions affecting everyone around him. By identifying the instances where Sasuke was right and those in which he wasn't, we can better discern how keen his judgment really is.

10 RIGHT: Sasuke Was Right To Confront The Man Involved In His Clan's Massacre

Sasuke vs Danzo in Naruto

After Obito revealed the truth about Danzo's involvement in the Uchiha genocide, Sasuke was quick to act. Although the Foundation leader escaped from the Five Kage summit unscathed, he was pursued onto a bridge that would serve as his tomb.

Sasuke cast a genjutsu on Danzo in order to encourage him to fight aggressively. Since the villain overestimated the number of Sharingan he had remaining to cast the Izanagi, he was baffled when he could no longer reverse being impaled through the chest by his opponent.

9 WRONG: Sasuke Shouldn't Have Tried To Kill Karin Along With Danzo

Sasuke Danzo Fight Samurai Bridge

In a desperate attempt to save himself, Danzo took Karin as a hostage and used her as a human shield. He hoped to deter Sasuke by threatening the life of his most valued medical ninja.

However, Sasuke didn't even make an effort to avoid Karin when he shot his Chidori through Danzo's chest. His callous disregard for her life and abuse of her loyalty proved how far he had fallen ever since leaving the Leaf Village to join Orochimaru.

8 RIGHT: Sasuke Was Right About Breaking Kakashi's Rules To Help Naruto

Sasuke feeds naruto who is tied to a tree stump

During the bell challenge, Naruto was the only member of Team Seven who wasn't allowed to eat during their break. The other ninja were under strict orders by Kakashi not to feed him since doing so would be a violation of the trial's rules.

Sasuke ignored his sensei's instruction and fed Naruto anyway in spite of the rivalry between both boys. Although Kakashi discovered him immediately, Sasuke's action was exactly the type of behavior Kakashi had hoped to see from his prospective new students. It indicated a willingness to put comrades over the mission, a lesson that he learned from Obito Uchiha.

7 WRONG: Sasuke Was Wrong To Verbally Berate & Abuse Everyone

Sakura following and annoying Sasuke

Sasuke was verbally abusive to his comrades and even dismissive of his teachers. This was shown most prevalently in his treatment of Sakura Haruno and Naruto Uzumaki, who he called "pathetic" and "loser," respectively.

His callousness was not taken lightly by the members of the Konoha 11, who were less forgiving of his later decision to abandon his home and even sought to kill him before their village's reputation was tarnished. If he had been kinder, it's possible that his former comrades would have more patience when he went rogue.

6 RIGHT: Sasuke Was Correct In Putting Zaku In His Place

Sasuke vs zaku

After waking up from his fight with Orochimaru, Sasuke was alarmed by the wounds Sakura suffered and confronted Dosu's team by himself. He almost immediately killed Zaku for how proudly he confessed to harming his teammate.

If he didn't let Sakura stop him, the Leaf Village would have been better off in the long run. It ultimately would have denied Orochimaru a sacrifice to use in his Edo Tensei ritual against Hiruzen Sarutobi, meaning Sasuke's mercilessness could have saved the Third Hokage's life.

5 WRONG: Sasuke Was Wrong To Join Orochimaru

One of Sasuke's most defining (and worst) decisions was to join Orochimaru. Although his choice had been contemplated for a long time, his mind was finally made up after being beaten into submission by the Sound Four.

It demonstrated a willingness to put his insatiable desire for revenge over anything else, including whatever bystanders may have been caught in his path and even his former comrades. Moreover, it disgraced his village and nearly cost him his life on numerous occasions.

4 RIGHT: Sasuke Was Right To Help Naruto Fight Madara & Kaguya

Team Seven — Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke — landing a devastating hit on Kaguya Otsutsuki in Naruto: Shippuden

Near the conclusion of the Fourth Shinobi War, Sasuke was perhaps the single most valuable ally to the heroes' efforts. In addition to playing a role in the past Hokages' resurrection, he also defeated Kabuto alongside Itachi and contributed to the fight against Madara and Kaguya.

Moreover, his Susanoo protected Team Seven from the Infinite Tsukuyomi, rendering them the only people on the planet who managed to avoid its hypnotic sway. Without his decisive action, the world would have been plunged into inconceivable darkness.

3 WRONG: Sasuke Was Wrong To Turn On Naruto & Attempt To Enslave The Five Nations

Sasuke naruto final fight in ocean

After Madara and Kaguya had been defeated, Sasuke turned his attention toward Naruto. Despite his contributions to the heroes' cause, he wanted to substitute the evil he had just defeated with his own.

By enslaving the Tailed Beasts, his power was able to rival and even surpass Naruto's own. Sasuke only realized he was wrong after he had been defeated and lost his arm. If the rest of the world had been awake to witness the final fight, they may not have been as ready to forgive him as his friends were.

2 RIGHT: Sasuke Was Right To Ask For Forgiveness & Redemption

Sasuke Speaking To Naruto With His Rinnegan Activated

After his climactic defeat at the Valley of the End, Sasuke could have run away or quietly accepted his fate as a prisoner. Instead, he saw firsthand how far Naruto was willing to go on his behalf and finally let go of his hatred.

Although the Five Nations wouldn't forget his actions immediately, Sasuke came to their rescue on dozens of instances. His usefulness to those he had wronged was most evident through his battles against the insidious Otsutsuki Clan.

1 WRONG: Sasuke Misdirected His Anger By Killing Itachi

Itachi vs Sasuke In Naruto

Since the beginning of the series, Sasuke's expressed goal has been to find and kill his brother to avenge his clan. After years of training and sacrifice, he finally had his opportunity. The siblings' second battle ignited the entire sky and concluded several hundred episodes of buildup.

After Itachi's death, Obito approached Sasuke and told him the truth about the Uchiha genocide. Sasuke was immediately overcome with regret for what he had done with the knowledge that his older brother's actions had been almost entirely with Sasuke's best interest in mind.
