Naruto teams up with Hello Kitty in Sanrio's latest collaboration.

The new collection of merchandise was revealed on Anime! Anime! and sees the cast of the perennially popular shonen anime series exchanging gear with Sanrio's stable of adorable characters. Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura and company all compliment their outfits with iconic elements from Sanrio's mascots, such as Hello Kitty's bow and Pom Pom Purin's beret, while the cuddly animals pull off their best assassin cosplay. The collection will feature acryclic keychains of each individual character, as well as towels adorned with art that show the ninjas and the mascots interacting with each other. Premium Bandai will take preorders on the new goods until May 22. The items are expected to start shipping in Japan by July.

This is not the first time that Naruto Uzumaki and Hello Kitty have crossed paths: the two characters previously teamed up for a set of pricey vinyl figures. The collectible set featured Hello Kitty dressed up like Naruto in his post-timeskip Shippuden outfit, while Chococat was decked out in Sasuke's garb. The adorable mascots were also posed with effect parts that made it look like they were doing each character's signature attack, allowing fans to recreate the explosive, bloody end of Naruto and Sasuke's final duel in the cutest way possible.

In addition to pairing their mascots with Naruto's cast of deadly assassins with tragic pasts, Sanrio is also releasing a collaboration with Sailor Moon. That collection of merchandise pairs each of the Sailor Scouts with the animal friend that most closely matches their personality, and is being released as part of the celebration surrounding the 30th anniversary of the premiere of the original Sailor Moon anime.

Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto is celebrating a big anniversary of its own in 2022, as well. The original anime adaptation of the series premiered in 2002, and the show's producers have announced plans to celebrate the 20th anniversary of that debut throughout the year. A new anniversary logo was revealed at this year's Jump Festa, alongside new art that shows Naruto as he appears at the beginning of the series, and as he looks as an adult at the end of it.

Naruto was created by Masashi Kishimoto in 1999 and was one of Weekly Shonen Jump's "Big Three" franchises of the early 2000s. The series is the fourth best-selling manga of all time, with over a quarter of a billion copies in circulation. The Naruto and Naruto Shippuden anime are available for streaming on Netflix, Crunchyroll and Funimation, while new episodes of the Boruto sequel series are available on Crunchyroll.
