Jigen is one of the main antagonists of the Boruto manga series written by Ukyo Kodachi, and illustrated by Mikio Ikemoto. Being a vessel of an Otsutsuki, Jigen is extremely powerful. In fact, he's the strongest known character in the entire series right now. Also, as its most iconic villain, Jigen is often compared to Pain from Naruto.

These two are often put head to head by the fans and we're measuring them up against each other to see which of the two is actually better. Here are five reasons why Jigen is better than Pain and 5 reasons why he's worse.

10 Better: Stronger

Isshiki Otsutsuki Full Power Boruto manga

Jigen is the leader of Kara. All of their inner members are known to be extremely powerful. Even among them, Jigen is especially strong, evident from the fact that he was able to fight both Naruto and Sasuke together without even breaking a sweat.

Jigen's source of power is an Otsutsuki that dwells within him, named Isshiki Otsutsuki. He was the partner of Kaguya Otsutsuki when she came to Earth a long time ago. When compared to Pain, Jigen's power is significantly greater and there is no comparison between the two whatsoever.

9 Worse: Unclear Goals

Jigen's goals aren't quite clear in the story yet, even though we've been following his organization for quite a long time. What we do know is that he aims to bring back Kawaki and make him into a perfect Otsutsuki.

However, why he wants to do this isn't known. Also unknown is why the members of Kara even follow him. Despite characters like Boro having died already, we don't know why he joined up with Jigen and their motives will likely remain under the wraps for the foreseeable future as well.

8 Better: Leader

Jigen is the current leader of the mysterious organization known as Kara, which makes him one of the most important characters in the entire story. Him being an Otsutsuki vessel means that he's far stronger than the likes of Delta, and Koji.

The respect he demands is quite impressive and it seems that all the members of Jigen's group are scared of him, to an extent. Although Pain was a good leader, he was being manipulated by Obito Uchiha all along, and we're glad that's not the case with Jigen.

7 Worse: Lacks Motivation

One of the reasons why the entire Naruto community fell in love with Pain is because of his ideals and his motivation. As we know, Pain wanted peace. It was his way of achieving this goal that was problematic.

Nonetheless, Pain's motivation was understandable and his actions made the fans love him. Jigen, on the other hand, is shrouded in mystery. His goals are likely not noble, as he is an Otsutsuki vessel, which means he doesn't care about peace and the fate of the world as long as his goals are met.

6 Better: Superior Abilities

As mentioned above, Jigen is the most powerful character in the entire Boruto series and this was proven to us when he was revealed to be powerful enough to take down both Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha at the same time. Using his ability to shrink in conjunction with the standard Otsutsuki powers, Jigen became nigh unstoppable.

Pain, although strong, was nowhere close to the level of Jigen. The fact that he was taken down by Naruto Uzumaki in just his Sage Mode proves that. Undoubtedly, Jigen is the stronger of the two.

5 Worse: Scientific Technology

Boruto Kara

Like every other member of Kara, Jigen's body has been modified with Scientific Technology as well. This was likely the work of their genius scientist, named Amado. While the Scientific Ninja Technology is extremely cool, it certainly doesn't stay true to the core of the series.

At the end of the day, Naruto and Boruto are series about ninjas and the introduction of ninja technology changes that quite a bit. We love Pain because he didn't need to rely on any enhancements to prove himself strong.

4 Better: Pure Villain

At some point, Isshiki Otsutsuki found Jigen and possessed his body through unknown means, giving him the Karma in the process. Ever since then, Jigen has become the embodiment of Isshiki's will, aka his Vessel.

Naruto had a trope where almost all the bad guys ultimately switched sides and although that was nice to see in some cases, in others, it just didn't make any sense. Thankfully, with Boruto's biggest villain to date, that doesn't seem to be a problem.

3 Worse: At His Limits

Jigen is known to be incredibly powerful and even Naruto and Sasuke acknowledged that fact. However, what's surprising is that he's already at his limits. In his fight against Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke, Jigen had to rely on the chakra of the Ten-tails to be able to defeat them.

Furthermore, after going all-out and defeating the two, Jigen ultimately ran out of power completely, which is when Isshiki mentioned that he's at his limits. For a major villain like Jigen to be treated like this already makes him lose importance.

2 Better: Otsutsuki Connection

Jigen is directly linked to the Otsutsuki clan through Isshiki, which means that more things about this clan will be revealed in the future through him. Essentially, he serves as a link between the clan and the people on Earth for now and will ultimately lead to the introduction of the clan in some way.

Although Pain was a magnificent villain, his end was followed up with Obito Uchiha taking the reigns, which some don't think was the best decision in the first place. Nonetheless, Pain was great in his own ways.

1 Worse: Design

Among Naruto fans, it is evident that Masashi Kishimoto's design for Pain played its part in making him one of the most loved characters in the series. Arguably, Pain is the best-designed character in the entire Naruto series and the same can't be said for Jigen.

While Jigen's character design isn't bad, it appears to be bland, until he goes out to his way to unlock the second stage of his Karma, which turns the heat up a bit. We hope that with time, Jigen's design improves until it can rival Pain's.
